Bit confused by all of this - I am a professional academic (not in this field) and this just seems like a monetised pathway that is a mongrelised mish-mash of accrediting bodies, corporate enterprises and a surprising and slightly disappointing sprinkling of well-known social media people.

DSC1
DSC2
Deer Management Course (3 days)

Am I being a bit thick that this is the well recognised qualification route already in place?

Per DMC There's a total of 6000 DSC2 qualified people in the country currently - that is already a VERY small number
1 in 10,000 of the population
4 or 5 in a decent sized market town. Yeovil. Bury. Taunton etc

For comparison there are 20x more qualified private pilots and 4x more chartered nuclear engineers and you dont fall over them when you go to tesco

Assuming 20% or so of them see value in a higher qualification (or are required to for work etc) you are talking maybe 1000-1500 people total taking this course over a good few years

That is tiny and seems not worth the admin for anyone

Also as an aside how do DMQ know how many DSC2 holders have died or moved away or does the 6k figure relate to all time qualification

Having read the info on there site about what is required the jist of it is:
UNIT 1- have degree/national diploma in relevant subject, and top up required "credits" with other quals like Advanced deer managment.
UNIT 2- cull 5 invasive species and submit pictures as evidence
UNIT 3- cull 5 natives and submit pictures as evidence
UNIT 4- complete a deer managment plan and submit.

And for the grand total of £750 quid someone Deemed "qualified" will give you the thumbs up that you're "qualified" enough for your special certificate.
A completely un necessary qualification that doesn't actually benefit anyone other then the people being paid to sign you off or deliver the extra courses to attain the magical credits required.

This still will not be recognised as the highest qualification in deer management.... last time I checked the Sustainable Deer Management Module from the University of the Highlands and Islands Masters Degree in Sustainable Mountain Studies is a SCQF 11 or RQF 7, which for the record is still cheaper than DMC3, before you have completed any other courses it requires of you before they let you do the DMC3!
