Hi,
I'm doing my DSC in three weeks and have starter the revision. I'm a bit too near the 80% mark for comfort and cant be sure of the following. Can anyone assist with the definative answers? I can't seem to find them (looking too hard I suspect!!).
Any assistance gratefully recieved.

Q8. A buck whose antlers in season are a spongy mass of velvet (a perruque head) should:

a Be culled as it may become infected and he will probably die (I'm inclined to go for this)

b Be protected and must not be shot

c Be preserved as good breeding stock

d Soon come into hard antler and produces a normal head

31. Within woodlands, at what range are the majority of deer shot?

a Under 100 metres (I'm inclined to go for this)

b 100 – 150 metres

c 150 – 200 metres

d 200 – 300 metres

94. You are visiting an estate in Scotland to stalk hinds in December. The stalker tells you

to shoot a red stag (out of season) because it is marauding on some turnips:

a You may do so only if it is actually in the turnip field

b You may only do so if you have been named on an authority from Scottish Natural Heritage (I'm inclined to go for this)

c You may only do so if you have actually seen the damage yourself and judge it to be serious

d It would never be legal for a paying guest to do so

150. Roe bucks and does tend to defend a territory throughout the summer months. Under

normal circumstances which is most likely?

a For a buck’s territory to overlap with that of another buck

b For a buck’s territory to be the same size and shape throughout its life

c For a buck to hold a territory trying to exclude all other mature bucks (I'm inclined to go for this)

d For a doe to hold an exclusive territory trying to exclude all other does including the kids of

that year

159. During which month would you observe your roe deer to determine the previous year’s

recruitment to the population?

a October

b March

c June (I'm inclined to go for this)

d August

202. The majority of highland red deer when resting:

a Usually lie down watching uphill

b Usually lie down watching downhill

c Don’t appear to favour any direction (I'm inclined to go for this)

d Turn round constantly to keep a look-out in all directions

My answers in red

I still have a deerquest dvd and the answers are virtually the same i did my dsc1 12 months ago with John Burgess and i used the deerquest cd and flew through the test but i also bought the jelen and the dcs book version

Just done mine with Jon Snowdon , if you listen throughout the course you will enjoy it and judging from how much attention to detail you have now you shouldnt have any problems ,
Good luck

Jelen have an online revision aid which I used in the run up to my DSC1, and I sailed through. :smug:
Costs about a tenner a month. You'll driver yourself crackers with it for a bit, getting the hard ones right and dropping the easy ones, but that's how you learn.

Very many thanks to all who have responded. I have signed up for the Jelen Revision aid. Like another poster here, their admin is poor, though. Like him, they failed to respond to my email!

Just watch out. As I found out yesterday some of the questions in jelen differ from the actual test questions. And in the test there is 40 meat hygeine questions not 20 at in jelen

I think you'll find that DMQ combine the Meat Hygeine - General and Meat Hygeine - Large Game questions into one paper of forty, rather than two papers of twenty. Jelen just happen to split them up for ease as that's how the questions come from DMQ. Having recently reviewed the latest set of questions, I'm not aware of any discrepancies as you suggest - perhaps you should contact Jelen direct with your concerns?

i intend to , one that springs to mind is the deer droppings question , in the jelen test it asks what best describes deer droppings a b c or d, in the dsc1 test it asks what does NOT best describe deer droppings a b c or d

A number of questions were recently changed by DMQ from negative answers to positive ones - as you describe. DMQ have also downgraded some answers in the meat hygeine section, such as the hanging of fur and feather together or no longer needing to wear whites before entering the larder. Worht checking you are working from the latest sets of questions and answers.

As I was paying 10quid a month to use the jelen site I woulda thought they would be the latest version of the the questions

Thanks for the heads up Chanty. I'm doing mine thru' BASC. It's just that they were nearer and it was more convenient. I'll ammend my answers.
Cheers,
