DSC1 App - Revision.

Hi everyone,
Has anyone bought the online DSC1 app through the Playstore on Google?

Is it worth the price tag and does it help with the revision? I.E. has someone used it and passed their DSC1 with its help?

Basically is it worth it or shall I just carry on revising with the manual?

TIA!

I downloaded it & like the flexibility of testing my knowledge using the app. I have yet to sit my DSC1 test in October I won on here, so I`ll have to wait till then to see if it has really worked for me. I do think it is a helpful app though for training.

I got it it’s great

The deer questions I flew through my DSC1

The hygiene can be a bit better I got a lot of same questions but I did get a lot of questions about larders and wild bore. The deer hygiene questions was spot on but they could add wild bore and larder questions

If you’re looking to do some mock tests when you get a spare 10-15 minutes through the day, it may be a good revision aid for you. You don’t need wifi and there’s no adverts etc.
Definitely keep cracking on with the manual though, as all the info is in there.
I figured a one time price of £9.99 was fair, considering the alternatives were charging that monthly.
You can always download it, try it out and then get a refund if you don’t like it.
I’m happy to answer any questions you’ve got about the app, or take on any suggestions on how to improve it. I did post here initially when I was building the iOS version and again when I was looking for android testers.

I asked SikaMalc if he’d be interested in some free download codes as part of the monthly giveaways too, but I never heard anything back.

Would absolutely recommend DSCtraining.org
Many of the questions are identical and the format is similar too. Well worth the investment.

That is great to hear. I bought the app on the iOS App Store, but have been afraid to use it after a comment I heard from the instructors for my upcoming DSC1 exam. So your comment has given me a little peace of mind.

Apparently they had a case of someone purchasing a £10 per month DSC1 revision app who kept failing the exams. The content on the app was wrong?! But then again, the person may have just struggled with exams and the like.

Many thanks Migwados, £10 is great value for the convenience.

The questions are the same the answer was even in the same place haha… if an answer was “b” they didn’t even bother changing it around in the exam lol. But still read carefully

When I took delivery of my DSC1 pack it was just like all course packages I had done, for me I would read through pick out the bits I needed to brush up on and work on those. The basic stuff was no different from stalking/shooting years previous to that as a backstop is a backstop or a duck/pheasant in season.
Out of the course the shooting test is what I have seen/read is what people struggle with, personally I would not practice with an air rifle in the garden as they handle far different to a C/Fire rifle and there is no pressure in the garden only your neighbors watching lol
Spend more time with the rifle as that is what you will be using with your cert hanging up on the wall.
Good luck

You’re welcome, mate! The whole point of it was to provide a convenient way for everyone to revise on the go, when you aren’t able to carry the book around 😂

A few people have commented on how it’s helped them and I even surprised myself when I sat the exam and found the app delivers exactly what it promises. I still purchased the book from BASC, still studied it, still went out stalking/shooting etc.
In this day and age, information is everywhere, so we should be soaking as much up as we can.
Get the book from BASC, sign up to DSCtraining.org | Online training for your DSC1 , get the app, have a good read through this forum, interrogate members of your rifle club about their stalks and hit it from all angles. That’s how we become better, safer and ultimately ensure a humane dispatch of whatever quarry we’re going after.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, as they say!

Hey @DeadEyeSimo. . how was the app in terms of prep and have you sat/passed your DSC1 yet?

I’m due to sit mine next month directly with BASC and all I have is a 1000 page manual to read which is difficult to get theough.

I read your post and purchased the app on the IOS App Store. I like the format and variety of questions but was hoping there would be some content to accompany it instead of just quizzes.

I wonder if the electoral exam questions are from the same bank as the mock?

Curious to know what you think.

Thanks

There’s definitely more than one way to skin a deer!
YouTube videos, the dsctraining.org site, this forum, various stalking books etc
Are you doing the 4 day course, or just the one day assessment? If it’s the four days, you’ll be shown pretty much everything in the classroom and the team at BASC are very receptive to questions.
As with anything, if you’re unsure, just ask. There’s no such thing as a silly question, just silly people 🤪😅

Best of luck with it!

Mine was the 3 day one & yes they use the same questions and maybe add a couple of different ones, wich they will go through on the course with you. For me the app was really good practice for the questions. I have started doing a house extension works so sitting down with the manual wasn’t easy for me, but using the deer id appwhen I had 5 minues here and there helped. I always got the deer id right on the app, but the slides they show you are very different. I would focus more on the differences between the species and what they look like in different seasons. Also using the app there was one question wrong about the purchase age of buying a rifle & ammo. It is a very good course & informative.

Thanks both @quarrystalker & @Migwados.

I’m on the 4 day course, so hopefully they will cover the content to a sufficient level.

I’m slowly working my way through the course but using the DSC1 app on the iPhone.

I also bought the ultimate deer data for £20 but again that’s just questions / quizzes and not the content itself.

Will keep you guys posted on how I get on next month, thanks for the support.
