DSC1 manual arrived today [GULP!] practical question

This when I should not say anything but I will how do they know there are homeloads if you don't tell them?

In all likelihood they won't, but why be subversive? Why not simply comply with the rules of the course and hosts?

That will depend if you want to take a short cut and just have set answers to set questions. I am not knocking the website that you suggested but if you want a better understanding of the subject you need to read the manual and if you're seriously interested other books on the subject too.
I agree with this very strongly, its all about self improvement. The DSC training website is a great resource but should be used with the manual as an aid to improving ones knowledge not simply 'passing' the test.

Your intiled to your view. I personally think it just a money making scam. Do level 1 and you need to do level 2 even if you had 30 years stalking experience to get the worthless bit of paper to rent a government wood yourself. Most of its about hygiene only needed if you want to sell deer. Wait and see next will be fsc 1.

Zero your rifle to ensure it’s good to go - then practice off of sticks 40, 70 100 and 150 regularly

95% of my shooting is off of sticks, I like to keep my eye in by constantly checking we are all good to go

When you come to shooting a hundred or less it makes it considerably easier if you practice further than you want to shoot it’s makes it easier

Find the factory Ammo that suits your rifle and you shoot well with and stick with it using a .243 find a 100 grain SP round and practice all the different range disciplines, there are a stack of factory Ammo available I use Hornady 100 grn SP in my 243 and it’s subs less than half inch with me on the butt, that gives me a tight zero to work with from the start
Keep it simple, don’t over engineer the shot,

Only thing I would say is to practice shots in inclement weather as well to get it in your system, keep calm, breath out and
Put it in the spot, the more you practice the easier it will become

Good luck

A bit of an old thread. But others may read it retrospectively.

From my own course experience, I's suggest that whatever you take, in terms of rifle and ammunition, also ask for the use of the estate rifle, as a back-up. Because the cock-up fairy is always going to be about.
On my course, we had two people who couldn't get their guns to zero. And one guy was at the firing point when he discovered that the dealer had supplied him with the wrong ammunition. So they all fell back on a loan/estate gun, and completed the course.

Having been a target shooter for a long time, I found the range test was easy. 3" groups at 100yds should not be challenging for anyone, after even just a little practice. But it's well worth taking the gun/scope/ammo combo you will be taking to the DSC1, to a range. And make sure that it (and you) are zeroed and grouping ok. Teaching you to shoot is not something that there is time for on the course.
