Electric Quad?

Has anyone on the site used an electric quad for stalking/recovery? I should imagine it would have the advantage of being quiet but I am not sure how it would perform relative to a petrol powered version.

My kids have got one and it’s an absolute rocket with them on it, with me... not so much. Granted that’s a kids thing but it is 48v 1000w which is about as powerful as I could find.

I suspect even full size versions would struggle with a deer or two loaded on board.

I've never actually seen one but there used to be a British company manufacturing serious electric quads, I believe they were based somewhere in the west country possibly Devon. Their advertising showed their quads going head to head with some of the biggest petrol driven quads and out pulling them in a tug of war contest.
I don't know if the firm is still around but their quads looked quite impressive if all the advertising was to be believed.

I think this may be who you are thinking of.
I spoke to the company a couple of years ago and these are serious money. I even asked about secondhand ones and they are not cheap. The reviews for them were good and the range was sufficient for what I would have needed. Just couldn't justify the cost so stuck with my truck.

That’s more like it but still only equivalent to about 4 horsepower. I suspect it would feel like more though because electric motors pull so well from a standing start.

I’d be very interested to see one of those in the flesh. I quite fancy it myself.

If you were to look into it have a good look at the spares availability and pricing. Things like brake pads or disks maybe even an axle. Many of these things come from China and getting spares can be a nightmare. See how long the company have been importing them as well.

GOLF CARTS; A guide friend of mine is buying old golf carts cheap. some how he raises the suspension a couple inches , adds knobby tires and something in the electronics to increase power and battery life. He says its cheap and easy. Some have 4w drive. They will go many places. they're not full bore Quads, but pretty darn good. he adds a winch and because they're light they're relatively to get unstuck. He also uses a Danforth anchor to eliminate trees. I almost forgot they are Quite. capt david

I wanted to try a electric sit in ATV for deer park work in my last Stalking job but all the dealers kept talking the talk but none could come up with a demo unit or a firm UK price. Gave up in the end. Shame as, for the role I had in mind, I'm sure it would have been good.

I thought there was a proper agriculture version.
We thought about it but never looked into it that much as claimed range was only 40_50km on a charge, at the times we were averaging that a day on a quad ( all away from home so no charging) Plus they never do wot they claim anyway.
It wasn't cheap but costing us about 7-10 quid in fuel every day soon that adds up.

Someone ping Mr Musk a tweet, there will be a Tesla ATV in a couple of weeks, with 1000mi range, charges in thirty seconds, and can carry two tonnes, can hover to get out of muddy ruts, and will clean the carcass for us. All for the cheap price of two kidneys and a litre of blood.

I live quite close to the makers of the Eco-Charger electric quad and have briefly seen one in use. If its only four horse power they are the most amazing horses. Quiet but not cheep at all.

Yup, electric horses are much more useful than petrol ones. My kids electric quad is only 1hp equivalent but goes like a stabbed rat.

That one has not made it to Texas. We use 'scalded cat!' I've never stabbed a rat exactly how fast is that?:-| FWIW, I've never scalded a cat either!:) capt david:old:

A stabbed rat is a bit quicker than two shakes of a monkeys tail, but but not as quick as a Bob's your uncle.
