Aye and a new perm on a 200 acre farm to try tomorrow night, I'm the only one with permission to shoot foxes on it at night , but as we know that doesn't mean much as I've seen an open top landy cruising with the lamp near it, I'm not using a lamp and on foot I'd say the advantage is with me but we'll see

on my permission the farmer and his mate use to go out lamping from a discovery and shot hardly any
my mate and myself started walking it with a red light and shot more
then thermal and NV came along and numbers shot jumped up big time
on foot with a thermal spotter and a set of quad sticks is the game changer, oh yer and a good caller

Last night this vixen was drawn in by the 'mad rabbit distress' call, the wind wasn't entirely in my favour and it was clear she wasn't entirely happy but it got her close enough.
I've just upgraded to Clive's Dark Engine with the rotary switch and power on light, definitely a useful improvement over the standard switch

That's two in the last fortnight that have done a runner as soon as I've flicked the caller on (about 30 miles apart so not the same one ). From memory, both were vixen in heat.

I'm out once a week minimum and noticed the past couple of weeks the caller being a bit hit or miss
but that's fox shooting for you
the thing is you cant call a dead fox again, so hopefully every fox that comes into your caller is thinking its onto food
If you miss or is an unsafe shot your educating them

Night night, your set up is i think identical to mine, pard nv007, tikka t3, stalon mod and a bsde laser and the torch mount too, is the t3 .223 rem

It's the .243 using 75gr Vmax. I am however waiting my variation for a .223 to become my dedicated fox rifle.

Anyone else on sd have zero joy with callers , been using one for a yr tried everything, different ground , calls , volume distances , time etc zero joy, its more a pian in the hole now to go and put it out stand for 2 hrs then go and pick it back up ffs, I'm using gc500 gen1,

I use icotech gc500, calls that work for me are vixen, dog fox mating, rabbit 1, pheasant distress, and hare uk 1, trick is not to over use it, call for 5 mins then turn it off for 15 mins, only have it on 5 volume it's more than enough and don't bother putting it out in the field 3 miles from you, just another thing with your scent on to put them off, just have it at your feet. Iv shot hundreds to it. Switch between vixen and dog fox mating this time of year.

Strange how people do things differently , well there is no rule book.
I leave mine playing constantly for up to around half an hour constantly changing calls from rabbit to hare to Cubs to chicken distress to mating calls and it works.
I have the volume on loud and stick the caller out around 50 -60 yards away and have shot hundreds too.
I always set up on a vantage point with a good view but sods law you still get some sneak in behind you.

In my 20`s I knew a bloke that was simply old Charlie Mustey,he lived in a ramshackle old joint on the north bank of the Deep Ck at Lancefield Vic.
He had a vixen that he used to peg out in the creek bank tussocks and walk up with a torch and nail the dog foxes that came in to her calls...best ever.

I use an e caller in western Canada. Red fox are hard to call. They are very cautious and will often stop hundreds of yards out. They check everything out then depart.
Coyotes will often come running. I had one get to the caller and bite it. Another came from behind me and ran past at three feet to get to caller. Of course they can get wise too.

Another one off the same patch last night - I think I've had 10 within about 10 yards of each other over the last few months! I'd been baiting the area to try and catch up with it but gave a few blasts of vixen in heat which I think helped him on his way!

Just common sense that surely? One of the biggest selling points of an electronic caller.
