Experience with Bergara HMR Pro in 22-250

Evening all,

I’m trying to decide between getting a tikka t3x and a Bergara HMR Pro or standard HMR in 22-250.

Does anyone have any experience with the Bergaras, how do they compare to the tikka? What are the pros/cons etc?

Thanks in advance.

Not had any expreience with a Tikka, but handled a few and I've for a Bergara HMR.

I think for the budget, the HMR is a great rifle. You get a solid chassis stock, cerakote and Remington 700 compatability.

Downside is that it's heavy, but good for target shooting which was my goal, and a 90 degree bolt lift.

The Tikka was about 20% more expensive, and everyone I've seen seems to throw away the stock and drop a load more money into a chassis stock. So not really fair to compare them at that point.

If you're budget allows £1500-2000 for a nice gun, the Tikka is probably the way to go. However if you want a gun that needs no further improvement for £1200, the Bergara is really nice.

Accuracy is likely to be equal, sub MOA for both. My Bergara shoots the S&B soft points accurately so cheap to shoot.

I have Bergara and a Tikka.

Both shoot very well.

With hand loads .5" and under if I do my bit.

Bergara took a wee bit of "shooting in".

The Tikka shot right out the box and has shot factory ELD X so well I've not really pushed the handloading for it yet, although I am working up a lead free load for it quietly.

The Bergara is a Carbon Wilderness .308 (B14 action)

The Tikka is the Ace Game 6.5prc

Very happy with both, just be prepared from some Bergara hate in the comments 😆 Bergara target attached 👌🏽 1" dot, 130 TTSX hand loads

Ive got the bergara pro, I was in the same boat but the tikka felt like the £800 quid rifle it was when I was growing up thats now £££

They are completely diffrent to the standard hmr 14. Barrel is honed in the usa, triggertech trigger, fluted 2 part bolt and full ceracote.

absolutely love it, little on the heavy side but a decent sling sorts it and its nicely balanced for the longer shots.

If you want any info PM me. Happy to talk through it.

Mines in 6.5cm and ive shot it out to 600m so far with no issues what so ever.

Photos are 600m and 300m with 143 grain eldx factory. Once I get the homeloads sorted il be able to stretch it more!

That’s great mate, thank you.

It seems like the HMR pro has been discontinued unfortunately, at least that’s what the shops are saying. But the HMR is still available.

Think the hmr pro has been discontinued but the barreled actions are still available as they use them in diffrent versions of the same rifle.

They do a prs one which is the same action in a chassis but alot more money

Put the lottery on when you buy one

You may get lucky and find one without issues that shoots

Bad experience with one?

I’ve seen too many with faults over the years to even consider working on them

Read the reviews - US side and here

The early examples were awful - folk say they are better now but from what I’ve seen their QC is still woeful and finding one with repeatable accuracy is a lottery despite what the influencers say

Far better brands out there

Got three years peace of mind and fast service if needed with Edgar Brothers if you buy a Bergara new. Love my Sako and Tikka in larger calibres but no complaints with a B14 in .223 I bought to replace a Rem 700 that I loved recently. The Bergara is a very worthy upgrade, shoots 1/2 MOA groups at 100m off a front bag or bipod, only used Sako, Hornady, Norma and Federal factory, 55gr and heavier. Cleaned the barrel then just shot it - zero drama. Only con v. the Finns for me is the higher bolt lift, but the only practical difference it makes is I have to make sure the ocular Vortex cap is angled a bit to avoid the bolt getting close to one of the lifting tabs on the scope cap. Mine is a carbon stock number, not a pro, but a prolific stalker and foxer in the borders has hammered his HMR Pro (if that's the aluminium one with the chassis and trigger upgrade) over the last few years in 22-250 day and night and has no complaints, he loves it.
