Oh, what happened there then? Not for the RFD and eventually not for me!
Ken.
Plenty I know have 6.5 on their fac allowing them a choice of a few calibres. Thats being well phased out now though.
Hi Tim,Oh, what happened there then?
Henry Krank I think. The original owner anyway.Hi Tim,
The RFD that sold the rifle (Parker Hale Safari) to me was called John Longstaff.
Some of my fellow dinosaurs on this board will remember John.
He was found expired in an aircraft toilet by police that boarded when he didn’t disembark.
They wanted a word with him.
His throat was cut.
I do know a bit more than that. That wasn’t related to him selling me a 22-250..
I think that as it was so long ago that you may have confused memories. Now I too may be wrong but this is how I remember it. -Henry Krank I think. The original owner anyway.
Apparently gun running to NI .
The above is more or less how I remember it too.I think that as it was so long ago that you may have confused memories. Now I too may be wrong but this is how I remember it. -
I remember John Longstaff (Pheasant Valley Arms), I bought my first .357 revolver off him via mail order. My memory is that he committed suicide in the toilet of an aircraft returning from a trade show in Germany as he had gotten word that the police would be waiting for him on his return to the U.K.
I recall that he was mixed up in the large scale sale of ammunition stolen from the M.O.D. I certainly remember the M.O.D. or military police visiting various gun auctions to check on ex-military ammunition being offered for sale. Several other dealers were also involved including one in Wiltshire. The story goes that there were garages or sheds on Salisbury plain where pallet loads of 9mm and 7.62mm ammunition were found, literally lorry loads.
Now around the same time he may also have been involved in the transfer of guns to Northern Ireland but that story generally relates to Viking Arms, who incidentally were as official importers supplying Ruger firearms to the Royal Ulster Constabulary at the time. Viking had their RFD certificate revoked or suspended for a time, but eventually got it back as what they were doing wasn't illegal but merely some sort of technical infringement involving the paperwork and it was all sorted out.
that is why I used to have 22rf and 22wmr ammo separately listed on my FAC... tired of RFD's who would not sell wmr without it being specifically listedI've been in a shop in Scotland where the rfd refused to sell a wmr to someone with .22rf on their ticket
Not normal up here now .
Police Scotland are now stating what action you can buy for vacant slots. Even for .22rf
You have to make your mind up and hope that the dealer has what you want and not an absolute bargain in the wrong action
Stupid , but then stupidity is the norm now as well.

New one on me ,never.heard thatThankyou all for your responses. to be clear my OP relates to the vacant slots on my FAC. My FEO was specifically interested in the justification for my request for a semi auto 22rf, explaining that i can submit my justification but it may not be approved as apparently semi autos are beginning to be hard to justify for vermin control. hence why i was surprised to receive a certificate that didn't even specify the action against the 22rf.
How are they becoming harder to justify?Thankyou all for your responses. to be clear my OP relates to the vacant slots on my FAC. But you didn’t get one, because it’s a variation of the standard cartridge that can still fire the original cartridge. Much the same as you can buy an ackley on a standard slot.I think many would be apprehensive selling a 223 onto a 5.56 slot.
When I bought a 223 wylde onto a 5.56 / 223 slot I was expecting a call from the FLD and having to explain that it's essentially both at the same time.
Justification, no such word in the firearms act. Stick to good reason and you won't go far wrong! How are they becoming harder to justify?
The guns haven’t changed, the law hasn’t changed and the quarry hasn’t changed.
You know that, and I know that, but this knowledge is sometimes lacking in licencing depts. But you didn’t get one, because it’s a variation of the standard cartridge that can still fire the original cartridge. Much the same as you can buy an ackley on a standard slot.
