Good morning folks not sure if in correct place but just a quick question if I may, I've just applied for my fac and wondered what to expect from South Yorkshire police when they rock up at my door, now I spoken to them on the phone and they've been really helpful with regards to the application itself and good reason etc but going on my clubs thoughts is that South Yorkshire are really testing the waters with new applications, just wondered if anyone has experience of the syp and how the home visit went.

I wouldn’t over think it too much, South Yorks I’ve always found to be excellent and very reasonable. I don’t think I’ve ever had a request knocked back in all the years I’ve had my ticket. I had a recently variation turned around in two days.

Have your ducks in a row regarding good reason. Be open, honest and transparent. Take their advice on board. Read up on security and be open to extra security precautions like outside lighting, cameras and alarms.

Good luck!

Thanks buddy, security wise I don't think I can do anymore, CCTV, monitored alarm with police response, cabinets chemically bolted in in the dogs indoor purpose built kennel with motion sensor on opening door number 1 and additional lock and siren on kennel door itself, and 2 Belgian Malinois, but as the saying goes, if they want it they take it so still vigilant. Good reason has been discussed with them and they are fine with it, they might question why I want 22lr, 22wmr and 9mm but they can all be used at the range and 3 different rifles, wanted a 223 but I can't commit to Beckingham on the only 2 days the club goes throughout the year so that's a no go.

Anyway thanks for the info and will take everything on board that they say.

By the time they opened the door to see that the dogs are seriously miffed by being woken by the siren, I would expect the police to have to do DNA testing to find out who'd tried to break in....

Hi Russ,

As said above, I've always found SYP good to deal with, can be slow at times but no bother as long as you do what's required 👍
