If it were legal, I would quite happily give up my centre fires and just use the 22lr.
My CZ 452 Varmint with Eley subs is sub MOA below 100 yards and most of my deer are taken within 50yds with nearly all the remainder under 100 yds and only exceptionally the odd one out past that.

.22 lr solids (i.e. target and subsonic) ammo penetrates the 4 inch planks which shore up our 100 yds quarry dust backstop. On that basis not much would survive a properly placed headshot…
I Remember years ago seeing a record roe head , that was shot on a estate in Hampshire , before it was given a full head mount, let’s just say the 243 may have been the finishing shot, enabling someone else to claim a record allegedly.
