Looks like the sudden cold snap has woken the old boys up. Lots of grunting go on this evening so maybe peak over the weekend or early part of next week.Spoke too soon
Out this evening & watched a buck scraping & marking then the grunting started!
Still a bit early though as temp too high really, ordinarily wouldn't expect it to start for another 10-14 days here but probably add another week to that this year!?
Tim it started last Friday. Seen a rutting stand yesterday day Monday . Bucks also callingHeard one in Suffolk at the beginning of the month.
My own started yesterday.
I was referring to my park deerTim it started last Friday. Seen a rutting stand yesterday day Monday . Bucks also calling
If the main stands are not on your ground that's probably where the big bucks are in the peak of the rut.Got the weirdest rut on the go. Back in Sept.lots of big bucks about, but the rutting stands are mainly on adjacent estates. Heard some grunting but haven't seen a big buck for weeks. Past two days I've seen a sorrel holding 20 does and fawns in a small spinney, a one antlered buck with a bad back leg (just over boundary) holding a dozen does and fawns. To cap it all I've just seen a very big knobby pricket with five does and watched him cover three in an open field.
God knows where the big bucks are unless our neighbour has had one of his eight man kill anything days on the rutting stands. Big deer more pennies job.![]()
If they were Pete I would hear them. The main stands are no more than 500 yds from my boundary. If the main stands are not on your ground that's probably where the big bucks are in the peak of the rut.
