Fallow Rut

We were in the Heathfield, East Sussex area Sunday eve and heard a buck groaning not 100yds from us, shot a knobber from the seat about half hour later.

The sound was so clear that we tried to record the groaning, but phone was not the best at recording it.

There's been grunting for the last two weeks on my patch. I found it in three different areas on my ground found half a dozen different stands.

Here's a buck on stand from last year. I had a walk round this evening but still very little action. Hopefully this cold weather will kick start it.

Well done that is an excellent picture and a fine animal. Must have been nice listening to the croaking while waiting for first light!

Thank you, yes it's very enjoyable. I have video of just pitch black and him grunting away 40 yards in front of me.

We were at my patch in Cirencester this morning. A few bucks grunting but not flat out. We managed to pick up four this morning 3 prickets and a sorrel all rather smelly and there stomachs not very full. Roll on November.
Regards Sean

Woodbridge area:

Morning - 4 prickets, no rutting action heard and all smelt normal.

Evening - 1 soral, the odd grunt and plenty of tree thrashing.

Started in South Linc's, stalked in on a super buck last night, first I've heard. He wasn't on my land but on adjacent FC land, amazing because their Ranger/helper/contractor is lethal on anything. Got in to 35yds and sat watching him and does for 10 mins with another buck grunting 100yds away. Whether or not he will survive is another question.

Think it's a week behind in the east of our county. Saw rutting action in the Ashdown last week . Still to get going on other permissions

They've been grunting in the New Forest for a couple of weeks now. Could be peaking now and be over quickly.

A friend picked up an amazing piece of behaviour on his trail cam on a minor rutting stand , it filmed a buck actually sucking his own cock (perhaps urinating in his mouth) then licking his flanks. No wonder they're a bit stinky.

Lucky I can't do that or I'd never leave the house:lol:
