Farmers blockading Dover Port

Protesting about cheap food imports from abroad enabled by post-Brexit food trade deals.

Well did they not believe that nice Jacob Rees-Mogg and that nice Mr Johnson when they told us leaving the EU would result in the UK being able to import cheaper food from outside Europe? Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Those farmers now blockading the docks that voted Brexit surely ought to know that you reap what you sow.

Their own NFU told them that their interests were better served by voting Remain.

I think most UK farmers voted to remain in the EU
The Common Agricultural Policy was, on the whole, very beneficial for them
It was the anti immigration, Rule Britannia, bring back the Empire, we can't have those ignorant Europeans telling us what to do, Farage loving idiots who voted for Brexit
The day after the Brexit vote was the day Great Britain became merely Little England

Cheers

I don't have an issue with those people. They voted for what they felt was right. They have my respect.

But by a large percentage apparently farmers voted to leave. Supposedly. And now aren't happy. Same as the fishing industry.

Self inflicted wound. For them I've no sympathy. My work and income has been severely curtailed by Brexit. Now it's their turn.

That’s the spirit 🙄

And by blockading the port those businesses who ARE exporting perishable foodstuffs or delivery critical items to the EU may, or might, now find those goods have missed their sailing to Calais, driving hours have run out, and the goods are then rejected at their end destination as "out of time".

Because perhaps they were lied to by Tory politicians and fell for cheap tricks (£350m to nhs) and xenophobia?

BREXIT was a huge folly.

Has anyone actually a seen benefit of BREXIT that has had a positive effect on everyday business? I suppose those who provide import / export and customs clearance services are having a field day.

Only a very few will benefit from BREXIT - basically the crooks, sorry Tory Donors, who wish to dump cheap imports on the masses at vastly inflated prices, with little in the way of oversight. And those who made a fortune on the currency exchanges.

Coming out from under the EU’s requirements and legislation would be one, if we actually monopolised on the benefits however the useless governments here don’t seem to know how to do that.

We should blockade the supermarkets that actually sells the cheap imports and berate the consumer that would make more sense as the blockade is having a knock on effect on other industries.
It is raising the public profile though.

I agree 100% that the root cause of the issues are the supermarkets. Many of which are Tory donors. What a surprise 🙈

we live on a island surrounded by billions of fish but you need a feccin mortgage to go to the chippy to buy one
That is as a result of decades of fishing under EU quotas. The whole system was utter madness and was only ever going to achieve one thing, the collapse of fish stocks. Boats throwing away perfectly good saleable fish because the quota had already been reached, then putting the nets back in the water to do it all over again until enough of a certain species were caught to make a profit. This was introduced by the EU but they couldn’t think of another solution so kept enforcing this for decades, it was akin to the troops being sent over the top of the trenches time after time in the hope that miraculously there would be a different outcome.

This is the reason why I voted leave, but our fu*king useless government hasn’t done a single thing to capitalise on Brexit and life has just gone downhill ever since in just about every imaginable way.
