FC grant funding for chiller trailers

This was published yesterday, looks like a great opportunity, grant support for various bits of forestry equipment including deer chiller trailers, scroll down about half way

FETF423 - Chiller trailer for deer carcasses​

Expected average cost of item (£): 15,091
Percentage paid towards item: 60%
Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1) (£): 9,054.60

This item is new for 2024. Item must:

  • be a chiller trailer for deer carcasses
  • be constructed to food grade standard with minimum 55mm insulation on all walls
  • have a maximum gross weight for trailer (including pay load) no more than 1500 kg
  • have a maximum internal height not exceeding 2.0m
  • contain 2 high level hanging rails
  • include a minimum of 20 roller-hooks and gambrels to hang the deer carcasses
  • operate in temperature range of 1C to 8C, trailers with freezer capability not eligible
  • have a lockable rear door
  • be fitted with a rear carcass lift with winch
  • be fitted with a temperature data logger to monitor and record temperature when in use
  • be fitted with a rear non-slip galvanised step
You must provide this item’s serial number when you submit your claim for payment.

FETF424 - Large chiller trailer for deer carcasses​

Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1) (£): 11,903.40

This item is new for 2024. Item must:

  • be a chiller trailer for deer carcasses
  • be constructed to food grade standard with minimum 55mm insulation on all walls
  • have a maximum gross weight for the trailer (including pay load) no more than 3500 kg
  • have a maximum internal height not exceeding 2.0m
  • contain 2 high level hanging rails
  • include a minimum of 30 roller-hooks and gambrels to hang the deer carcasses
  • operate in temperature range of 1C to 8C, trailers with freezer capability not eligible
  • have a lockable rear door
  • be fitted with a rear carcass lift with winch
  • be fitted with a temperature data logger to monitor and record temperature when in use
  • be fitted with a rear non-slip galvanised step

What’s a chiller trailer, as opposed to a chiller? Does it need wheels and a tow bar, or does it just mean a container style thing?
 
To get the serial number I guess you have to buy it and then apply and hope you don't get left with the whole cost.
 
I believe the grant scheme is intended to be available to anyone carrying out deer control in commercial forestry. Presumably the RPA have criteria they would use to determine who qualifies to access the funding? Does anyone have any idea what they are? Presumably aimed at those "paid to shoot deer" rather than "pay to shoot deer" but there are lots of shades of grey in between.

If you go to the website you will see that there are a whole series of scoring criteria that will be used in assessing whether or not a grant should be awarded. Benefit to the applicant in terms of productivity and benefits to wider community and environment.

Note - this Fund only applies to England.
