Wanted: FEO x5 Avon & Somerset

Interestingly , I did the maths (Roughly!)
Approx 30,000 license holders in A&S

This equates to £1 per license per year for one FEO. At £30k

5 year license term = £5 per license.

X 5no FEO's =£25 per license.

Excluding variations, visitor permits etc.

I I appreciate the arguments against raising license fees, but is the cost of one pint a year worth a potentially improved service?

After spending 16 years in the police I can pretty much guarantee that a certificate holder paying an extra £25 per certificate will not have an impact on the level of service they get.

In the time I was a police officer my council tax precepts for the police went up every year and as resident the service I got deteriorated almost exponentionally.

No, it is not.

If other authorities can do the work efficiently on the current fees then poor performance in other licensing areas is down to inefficiencies within the department.

If that is the case, raised fees will just be lost to the same inefficiencies.

Interesting that A&S Contabulary are using increased licensing fees as a rationale for these posts.

One of the major anticipated outcomes of the Plymouth Coroners recommendations in his prevention of future deaths report, was the need to overhaul the firearms licensing system for Police Forces.

This job, was given to the College of Policing (CoP), the national body for Approved Professional Practice (APP) and they have now devised a role and job description alongside recruitment criteria.

They have recently advertised the role - but the way they have written the advert, effectively means only individuals who have been a force licensing manager or currently are, have the ‘essential’ criteria to apply.

So if you are an individual who has been leading processes within a national failing system, you are the perfect candidate to conduct a root and branch overhaul of it.

Oh and it seems that we’ve already decided that licence fees need to increase as part of your review…….

Do wonder if any real change will occur.
