Vacancy: Volunteer humane animal dispatcher

Fire and Rescue services in the U.K. have become woke to the extreme.
It's funny you say that as all the government reports into the fire service say the opposite, that it's rife with sexism and racism and in desperate need of modernisation.

An ex colleague of mine (former CTSFO) left the police and joined the London Fire Service and lasted a few months before coming back to the police as he said it was so backwards, it was like going into the 1970's!

London was absolutely unbelievable back in the day, this is from guys who moved out. I don't know what the current situation is there.
I do know that you shouldn't believe all you read about sexism, misogyny and racism in other fire & rescue services, much of it has been grossly exaggerated unless things have regressed since I retired. I often worked with officers from two different police forces, all I can say is that we wouldn't or couldn't say one half of the things that they said. In my opinion the fire service have now gone too far the other way and thrown baby out with the bathwater.

Thames Valley Police are now looking for new HAD members.
So if you fit the criteria and won’t to give something back to the sport we all love then scan the QR and get involved with this worthwhile volunteer work.
Just bumping it up again,

The response has been really good so far with lots going through interviews and on to the next stage.

They still are looking for more volunteers so if your interested and have the skills to help with this worthy cause scan the OR code in this attachment and apply.

Best Tony

Is there a need to be mean-spirited? To us, this is surely all about welfare of the individual deer and minimizing the time that it has to lie injured before its suffering can be ended. Whatever issues anyone might have with the Police, the deer aren't at fault.
Mean spirited?

You do 6 call outs between 2200 and 0300 in 10 days like I’ve done in the past, then go to work the next day and get no more than a half heated thanks and see how you get on.

When your call out scheme was up and running was it not an option to decline the call?

Yes a lot of the deer wardens declined ed to attend but I didn’t go no one else would, what do you do let the deer suffer?

In the end after almost 10 years I jacked it in

Ah ok, we're a bit different in that we'll travel outside our raduis (sometimes well outside!) to cover others but then we're all old retired gits..... mostly

I think some lobbying is in order and use the TVP/Hants model, you never know, if specialist resource can not be spent on dispatching deer??
The big problem is, a lot do it for kudos but when the fluff hits the bonnet in the early hours of the morning suddenly no one is available and only the committed are left to deal with it.

As to the question about business insurance. Any police officer who uses their personal vehicle to travel from police station to another during a tour of duty or travel to a different police station to where they are based from home even going to training is required to have business insurance.
Correct. Or any other worker in any other employment.

The "commuting to work" allowed in a SDP policy is restricted to "to and from one place of work". Now that can mean work at police station in High Town all one shift on Monday, and work at police station in Low Town all one shift on Tuesday but NOT half the day and one then after lunch half the rest of the day at the other.

Now commercial Vehicle insurance is a can of worms in this instance for this position, wasn’t a problem when I did it I was commercially insured
