fireworks and dogs

My ESS bitch is a failed gundog (I gave up due to a lack of time) but during bonfire season- it's a formal 5 weeks down here; every time she hears a bang she off looking for a pick up! Keeps her fit mind!!

My la jack russel hates them, is a nervous wreck when they are going off, but when out with the old 270 with no silence it doesn't flinch when that is fired:shock:

My Springer loves gun fire centre fire or 3.5 magnum over his head wildfowling he thinks its fantastic, fireworks hates them.

My ESS bitch completely ignored the fireworks, I took her out later in the evening and there were still one or two fireworks going off but she completely ignored them.

Someone mentioned in an earlier post that you're better off acting normally and I tend to agree with that; over-reassurance simply makes them aware that there's something amiss (IMHO).

My 6 year old ess isn't bothered by fireworks at all. Indeed we have sat many a time watching various displays over the years. He will also sit under work benches when routers, circular saws etc are going, gun shot is no issue at all, however fire up a vacuum cleaner and you will not see him for age's, does anyone know why this happens?

With the vacuum cleaner our Weimaraner's just lie there and let you vacuum them as well. They are so placid but don't seem to fear anything. Other than when the wife goes off on one! Then we all do one.
