First .223 reloading results

I tried it with n140 as a friend had some
25.5 gn with 55gn vmax worked ok.
BUT don’t believe me. Always work up your own loads

Just away to start with my acquired .223… have 53grn vmax here

Now …. To hijack thread slightly …I have loads of N140 … anyone using it successfully in .223 ?

Paul
Hi Paul
im no expert but why N140?
I would say most people ive spoken to use N133 with a .223
bullet choice spot on for a slower twist barrel
again i shoot a 1-12 twist so 55-60 grn is about as heavy as i can go
hence the 53grn vmax use
good luck with it all

N140 tends to be the powder of choice for bullets in the 60 grains plus weight category with faster twist barrels.
I use it with 69g matchings and a 1:8 twist barrel 👍

Reason for N140….As I said originally
“I have loads of N140”. Already

The Viht Reloading Guide doesn’t list N140 for 53gns but it does for 55gns bullets - use it.

Enjoyed this thread a lot, well done @KRW for methodically working up a great load!

I found the 40grn v max to be absolute medicine in my .222, and happily it shoots to within 20mm of the same point of impact as Barnes 50grn ttsx out to 150m.
The attached target is during load development and shows just how much faster my reloads where are compared to the federal 50grn soft points it’s zeroed with.
There’s just something so satisfying about the accuracy of the .22 centrefires.
