Varget is very useful, I have a couple of bottles but have also loaded a test batch with Speer 110gr HP and RL17, quite nice to shoot, groups just over the inch at 100m and should be going at about 3150fps. There will be life after Varget.
@Flanker - can i ask what is your .270 barrel length and load/jump with the RL17? I'm about to run up a comparative series of different monolithic bullet heads with E17 (basically the same powder) to see which my new .270 prefers- would be interested to know what you are using. In advance, many thanks.
My 20” R700 was shooting 130 H- mantle over H4831 very happily, can’t remember the powder weight off hand but gave 2850 and was very pleasant to shoot. Reliably under MOA. I have just trialled the Fox 130 factory loads which in my rifle give 2850 and a 13 mm group at 100. Very pleasant to shoot. I also found them pleasant off sticks, I managed 30mm at 150 YDS.
I’m going to get slated for this but...
If I grab the .270 to go out for a rattle, as long as it’s a 130gr (factory load) I’ll knock it over every time... out to 300m without giving it a thought.
