First mature buck this year.

Another old friend taken this morning,6th year of seeing him and know he's 8 at least.
As a yearling he was a very good 5 pointer but never ever threw his 5 points to 6 and although decent down below up top was always weak.
Was in the same valley as the gold 7 pointer shot a few years ago and since then he's moved into the spot he vacated and i've left him since but was way overdue taking him.Lack of other bucks in those few years and after weighing him at 23.3kg he would have taken a bit of shifting.
An absolute bull neck on him and shot less than 100m from where the old fella shot his heaviest ever that put the scales to 23.5kg.

Looks a lumpy old lad, don't have any Roe but a nice example of a Roe

Great buck, I hope you keep the head to remember him. Not often anyone gets to know an animal on their ground that long I would imagine.

Another example of heavier roe in the north - not many bucks over 19kg /42 lbs in my neck of the woods down here in S Wilts or does over 16kg / 36lbs. Or perhaps as there are a lot of roe about the competition is high hence lower average weights.
Anyone else think similar?

In the ‘80’s I recall every fourth or fifth buck was around 40 - 44lb. Still an occasional older buck makes this even in the upper part of the valley/foothills of the Grampians, but two local rangers have told me separately that it’s nearly all young and hence smaller animals they mostly get now (90%+ ).
With maturity comes weight…
