First rifle: steer me away from .450 Bushmaster?

I'm terribly sorry! 😁

I could make peace with lever but with detachable magazine like Henry Supreme, but the tube and side gate make me sad.

Quoting myself. Looks like Henry is expanding the Lever Action Supreme line in 2026 to include .450 Bushmaster! 18" barrel and 5 rounds detachable mag.

Well, I didn’t really need both kidneys anyway...

Another option would be the .458 socom in an ar 15 platform that calibre innovations sell, but long wait time, expensive brass and mags are something to keep in mind but the bullets and powder shouldn't break the bank if you insist on such a calibre

I've been doing some dangerous thinking... is a straight pull .45ACP a thing?
Would've solve a problem with larger holes in paper without having to take out a second mortgage for the ammo
Since I’m not chasing ballistics, surely a smaller pistol round would be viewed more benignly by the FLO?

Not something you will likely come across, if you want a kick in the shoulder a .300 win mag would be cheap enough to shoot but extremely unlikely an FEO with any sense would think you need that at the ranges you shoot

All talk aside a 45/70 is your best option whether you agree or not, it cost me roughly £1 a round if you reload or £2.50 for factory ammo and i can shoot some baby subsonic loads or some thunderous supersonic loads, its so tuneable to what you want i adore mine

My super .300blk 125gr jacketed bullet loads for hunting costs 0,55-0,6£ + brass.
.300blk HN 165gr subs reload 0,24£
My 38spl loads 158gr HN bullet 0,25£ (48rounds a field match 12£ +5£ entrence fee and a 5£ hamburger).
12,17*44r for Swedish rolling block costs some gas and sweat for the bullet (scrap lead) 50gr of black powder or pyrodex and a primer cases are expensive but you only need 13 for a competition match. Cheap rifle low ammo cost, much bang and smoke( Maybee 4£ for a practice evening).

I load hornady 190gr sub x with reload swiss 14 in my .308. I use a bergara BA 13 (1in 8 twist barrel).
Prints tiny groups at the ranges you shoot at. Bullets 50p each. Powder 12-17p per shot depending on your source of rs 14.
Brass I'm sure would last countless reloads.
Being a single shot break barrel it might limit your rate of fire but improve your bank balance 😃.
You could also use cast lead bullets to save money, but I found the extra brass prep (flaring the case mouth) a pain and they were less accurate.
Another option for you.
