Wanted: Fly Fishing opportunities

I contacted Bigwell yesterday and fishing is currently good there. It seems the nearest of the recommended ones so will give that one a go. Sandford has less than positive reviews and speaking with some who've fished it, they back that up. More to do with the way its run than on the fishing...a rather "brusque" attitude apparently (over zealous staff, loads of "thou shalt nots" and regular staff patrols making sure everyone sticks to the letter of the law, including not being allowed on any swim except the one allocated) which has put a lot of people off ever wanting to return. A little further is the Dare valley fishery (about an hour and a half travel) which gets some positive reviews and stocks some pretty impressively sized fish. Ynysfro doesn't appeal to me much. Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!
Hello, Avon and Nadder in Salisbury , Great at May Fly time for the big Brownies

Thanks Flash....It's at least a two hour drive but I'll bank that as a maybe. Ideally looking for a little closer to travel.

I wonder if anyone can advise of reasonably priced fly fishing opportunities in or near Gloucestershire? There's one or two fisheries reasonably close but beyond those, I'd like to explore other opportunities if anyone has any recommendations?
There's Broadoak nr. Upton on Severn Small Fishery does day tickets, Great Burrows near Wooton under edge/uley. Lechlade and Bushyleaze near Farringdon, Bransford nr Worcester. All have websites.
good luck.

Great Burrows is a few miles away, practically on my doorstep and one I've fished...a nice little pond but currently out of operation due to water quality problems and no fish! Lechlade and Bushyleaze are simply too expensive on day tickets and usually quite busy. £90 per day for a trout fishery is going some! The going rate is about a third that cost on most other fisheries. River beats are expected to be more expensive. I did look at the North Cotswolds syndicate but there's a fair long waiting list and it's, again, very expensive. Unfortunately they seem to have all the main rivers in that area sewn up. Broadoak seems to be another holding draconian rules such as no picnicking/eating which is unreasonable if you're out for the day plus bizarrely, no mobile phones allowed. On the face of it, not one I'd care to fish.

ahha broadoaks thats the one near our bike meet

Might try Broadoak although their rules are a tad restrictive (incl no eating on site!). Had a reasonable day out at Bigwell last week but not keen on going back is it was over subscribed with way too many people fishing the two main ponds....mainly Blue and Tiger Trout which had become very wary and simply ignored every wetfly I passed cross their noses. Not a total waste as ended up with two good Rainbows, one tipping the scales at a respectable 4lbs.

Hello, Only a Tad !!!!!!!, No Eating on site and Cash only at Broadoak ?????? , What utter nonsense !!!!!!!, There was a local Trout Fishery who had so many rules and restrictions hardly anyone fished there, Closed now, Makes you wonder why Cash only ????

Some of them are cash only, where owners pop in now and then to check who's fishing and collect takings from hut boxes. Some rules do seem a tad excessive!
