Food banks

It’s the same in the USA. I have supported food banks in the past, and my grandfather was one that started one in their town. The arrogance of people that come in and demand certain things is a real turn off.
“No, I don’t want the generic canned goods, we only eat X brand”

My son told me about an app where companies sell off a bag of goods that would go to waste for a fiver.
Him and my grandson gave it go for a laugh , obviously they went for Greggs and some donut shop but by Christ the bag they got was big likes , and stuffed

Apparently the same can be used to by fresh foods
Too good to go.
Quite good fun to see what’s in the goodie bag. Normally worth a fair bit more than the price paid.
Some shops are far better than others.

We have a number of big food markets nearby, Bolton and bury, if you go last thing on a Saturday you can fill bags full of fruit and veg, fish and cheap meat for twenty quid. Almost every person there is Asian or African.... because they are the only ones not scared of fresh food.
Just 25 years ago I could sell rabbits and pheasant in my village.....last year I got the wife to do a Facebook post offering free meat and all the replies were abusive. When posts offering free range, organic food brings abuse from a society that 'cant afford to eat' then you truly know society is crumbling.
I should of learnt my lesson but I didn't, I've always enjoyed giving food to people who would enjoy it so I got the Mrs to do a post offering free rainbow trout.....3 replies saying they would have it if it's filleted and about 10 replies saying all fishing should be catch and release, some of those replies were from fishermen!

I also volunteered at a soup kitchen for a while....I left after a short experience of those receiving food and realising the motivation of some of the people running the enterprise.

Society is in a scary place, manipulated by elites and the media.

well i think i will continue to donate my 2 or 3 times a year to local foodbank with my Tescos trolley of own brand items.... if the folk who use the foodbanks are that fussy they can want .....
I've not seen any of that personally, i have seen some folk who really looked like they needed that helping hand.

i did speak to lafy one time she said they had a young lad 17ys old ... an apprentice on crap wages but had his own flat and he had picke dup a pack of pasta .... next week the lady asked how his pasta was ..... rock hard and dry !!!!! stupid f**ker hadnt cooke dit or attempted to read the bag !!!!

this leads to next point............. how many of generation now or one before ( im 49near 50) ...generation after me cant bloody cook ! no interest ... and just look at amount of fast food joints deliveroo just eats etc !!!! societys diet is f&*ked !

If you're going to talk about entire generations it's only right to look at your generation and the one after who should have been passing on cooking skills and the appreciation of fresh food to make a good meal. No one is born a cook but they can all be taught if they have parents or friends who know how to cook and importantly have the time to pass on the skills and desire to cook.

More than a generational thing I think it has to do with the time available for cooking and learning to cook plus the cost/availability of fresh ingredients especially in smaller portions.

Haven't donated to "charity" for years. This is a prime example of why! (and Royal British Legion, and R.N.L.I. and ............... etc)
Wifey pays £10 per month to the church on our lane.
Why CoE needs money is anyone’s guess.
I only ever support Air Ambulances from various areas.

20240810_201447.webpRe my previous post. Passed the farm tonight and this is still here, country curry, casserole and bolognaise which we can't give away. OK it's still in date until 2025, but it's been sitting here for 5 months already.

Our local Sainsbury express bags it up by 10pm and quite often charaties don't even bother in picking it up!
The only time we had anything approaching food poverty was in WW2 when rationing was in place. I can still remember my grandmother telling me about the ration cards. Grandad had to bring rabbits back from Wales and they went gleaning on the corn fields so they could feed corn their couple of hens so they had a few eggs.
I doubt most people alive today would not know what gleaning is.
I still do it but for maize cobs to get whole maize for my squirrel feeders.

The rationing was actually worse after the war under Attlee's Labour government.

Hi Lochty,
Is it signed that is free issue food.
Might just be honest people around there?
Cheers, Ken.

Guy I occasionally speak to near where we used to live, told me because he is not in agreement with it, his wive takes his daughter every week to the local food bank in gillingham to get the food for the week, as it it gives them more spending money when their daughter goes on their holidays

His daughter and son in law both work and earn good money, apparently his wife qualifies for some reason but don’t need it so ??

The system is wrong somehow even giving food to needy people has been exploited - a real shame on what this country has fell down to,greed self only parasites, taking food from people who need it, all we need now is street cartels and a normal person won’t be able to go out in the street, a real bloody shame
