Fallow loin (I have my suspicions it was roe) at the local Michelin star restaurant last night as the meat course in a lengthy birthday celebration treat for your’s truly :tiphat:

Whilst good (and the company was excellent), I prefer my daughter’s cooking and the irony that I have kilos of prepared loin in the freezer ready for sale didn’t go amiss, especially when I have 850g fallow loin steaks (for venison wellington) for sale for less that £20. What a world 😕

Peter, not withstanding the pleasure of fine dining / atmosphere and being treated (??) ( not that I am able to afford such things these days:-|)

I always marvel at your Daughter's superb meals ( when I opened the thread I thought perhaps she had returned to her profession until I saw the menu card.)

Her banquets look even better IMHO and the irony of your freezer fallow :rolleyes:was not lost on you but your credit card bill maybe

The good news is that she’s hasn’t stopped cooking, I just don’t post them 🤭 Not good for my wast line though 🙇‍♂️

It was my wife’s treat to me last night and as I explained in a recent post, January is a BAD month given I took her away to stay and dine in style barely two weeks ago. Having survived (more scans in 2 weeks time) 2 bouts of cancer, I’m very much of the mindset that I have one life, live it so enjoy these treats occasionally. Could I do it more regularly, hell no, but it’s nice to dust off the glad rags occasionally and doing it as a family means a lot to me.

More of my daughter’s recent cooking an be found here - one day she’s going to leave home 😕

Here’s a recent mid-week supper using some fallow haunch steaks 😋

Annual farm ‘charity shoot’ yesterday - no formal shoot on the farm but end of season there are plenty of strays about the place & guns make a donation to charity.

A couple of muntjac haunches, some veg, a few other bits chucked in for good measure & an overnight in the slow cooker produced this for lunch, accompanied by crusty bread & butter 👍

Photo really doesn’t do it justice, a good hearty stew served in a barn amongst the craic at lunchtime.

This is the second year I’ve done this after deciding that the idea of getting a bulk order from the local chippy & eating cold soggy fish & chips was a carp idea!

Has been a success both times & I’ve already had a request for next year - can we have one that’s along the lines of ‘steak & ale’ please 🍻
