I’ve got enough lead hidden away that I can make it work for a while...I think those are real tears in that emoji.... After all, you are a Creedmoor owner![]()
All the info was in the first post....6.5 creedmoor, RS62, lapua brass...what’s the OAL recommended for a 6.5cm with these? Sure I read somewhere it was 2.73”...What powder?
What brass?
Don’t pull the tips!
The 123gr will stabilise in any 6.5
Tip pulling is for long for calibre bullets.
Factory load is below
Pay attention to the OAL, it is unique given the conical profile and sharp ogive.
Compression is not an issue, quickload is also conservative.
What powder did you settle on in the end?I think I'd be giving up on those given those groups. I found the Barnes TTSX pretty damn easy to get grouping into a thumbnail with the 270. I thought the benefits of chamberings like Creedmoor were that they weren't too fussy ?
Same one I started with, RS52. The issue I was experiencing was down to the brass I was using. Might have had the same name stamp on it, but could have been from God knows how many years apart.What powder did you settle on in the end?
68.50mm/ 2.69" recommended by Fox reloading datawhat’s the OAL recommended for a 6.5cm with these? Sure I read somewhere it was 2.73”...
I’ve loaded the exact same bullet to the higher end of your velocity range in my swede. I’ve yet to test it but will post my groups in this thread when I send them down range. Interesting. I’ve been loading the same bullet in my .222 and found a sweet spot at 3250fps seated out at maximum oal.I bought a box of the fox copper bullets in 123gr 6.5 to load up to try and future proof my creedmoor and I just cannot get them to shoot, not sure if I’m missing something with this so thought I’d check to see if anyone has any good ideas as I’ve rattled through 34 rounds with no really pleasing results so not sure whether to persevere or try another brand.
So far I have loaded the following and with the following average velocities -
41.0gr = 2610fps
41.5gr = 2640fps
42.0gr = 2660fps
42.5gr = 2688fps
42.8gr = 2702fps
43.0gr = 2675fps
43.5gr = 2720fps
43.8gr = no chrono reading due to technical difficulties.
I also loaded 3 rounds at 44.0gr and 3 at 44.5gr however these were considerably compressed and when I checked were showing over pressure in QL so I pulled these and the bullets were damaged by the kinetic hammer.
The below are some of the groups and they are ok, but just not getting the accuracy I would like, I have also included the 140gr Sierra groups this rifle can consistently achieve when I do my bit so I don’t think it’s the rifle, it will do close to the same with 120gr sierras as well.
All the rounds have been seated at 2.73” OAL with RS62 and cci450 SMRP’s and Lapua brass.
Am I expecting too much of these? Has anyone been getting good groups with them? They just don’t seem very consitant.
Any input welcomed.
Regards,
Gixer
I wonder if I have been seating them too far out from the info that Paulux posted....I’m sure I read 2.73” somewhere but can’t find it now so it’s maybe my mess up...picking up a box today and will try some at 2.69”I’ve loaded the exact same bullet to the higher end of your velocity range in my swede. The RS62 load is pretty much exactly what I have used and it’s just not that accurate....not sure whether to shorten the OAL or extend it....or move to another bullet.Fox 123gr, 6.5 creedmoor
N555, CCI450, Lapua SR, 43,4gr, OAL=68,53mm (picture 5shot group, cca 120m), V0 850, ES 10, SD3.9 - for hunting ok
RS62, CCI450, Lapua SR, 41,9gr, OAL=68,53mm (no picture), V0=804, ES12, SD4 (used for hunting 2 years)
N550, Murom SR, Lapua SR, 41,1gr, OAL=68,55mm (picture 2, no speed data)
and also picture 3 for orientation, 5 shot group but low speed (not enough energy for me)
Are u using magnum primers?The RS62 load is pretty much exactly what I have used and it’s just not that accurate....not sure whether to shorten the OAL or extend it....or move to another bullet.
Excellent sd buddyI use a different powder from you, N550 with fox 123 grain, and settled on 43.4 in my 6.5x55, average speed over a 5 shot group is 2855 fps and an SD of 4.3. here is a photograph of one of the groups when I was doing the load development @125 yards.
Yes sir..,using magnum primers.Are u using magnum primers?
Think the CCI 450.are magnums
