Fox help

Hi,

I’ve recently got a new permission and the owner has asked me to clear fox and rabbits for him.
Night shooting is something I’ve not done a lot of.
Recommendations for a night scope that I could use for both if possible.
I’m seeing some both good and bad reviews re the Hik range which can be mounted on fixed mounting with rail and used on 2 rifles.
Also. In on a budget .
All advice welcome.

Ed @Edinburgh Rifles from there is very for good advice, what to use, how to use, mount it, zero it etc. I’d suggest having a quick chat with him and he will enlighten you, save you hours of reading replies on here to be honest.

Or go old fashion, if budget is tight, scope mounted light, don,t know how we managed culling rabbits and foxes.

The alpex lrf is great for this and lots of bargains now it’s been superseded by the pro.

Where are you located? Probably best if you go out with someone local to get to look through some different sights.

If you have an half decent scope then at this time of year I would be just interesting in a good fox caller and a red torch light for spotting and then build up on that
The caller I guarantee you will always use

I was shooting rabbits a few nights ago, .22lr with a £100 LEP torch off ebay. They paid no attention at all to the torch light. I shot four one after the other within 10m of each other in one paddock. If you're on a budget go old school first. It was much more enjoyable than lugging round a rear attachment and illuminator. Best of luck with it

I still use a lamp to shoot with. A sniperhog mounted to my glass scope. I roll them over just as much as my mate with night vision.
I spot with a thermal spotter tho. Don't use your scope to scan with!
Perfectly good enough to shoot foxes out to 300yrds.
You don't need to spend a fortune on the newest techy stuff.
Work with the wind in your favour, a couple of 5quid squeakers, or cheaper still an old dog toy squeaker. A set of quad sticks is a must for me.
Go out and make some mistakes, miss a few but be safe. Learn from the misses or the ones that get away. Have fun.

Just get a red led light and gun mount. Get a whip and remote switch and some velcro.
Build on that.

Depending on what scope you currently have you could use an add on, pard 007 LRF version. You can pop on any scope with SFP. I moved to a hik and love it but can be bothered moving it off and on rifles. Also a lot of older guys find the hik (and digital scopes in general) hard to navigate/set up. Not assuming you are old BTW.

I had a 22-250 with a meopta optika for roe and foxes with the add on and .22 with a hawke scope for bunnies. The add on makes it so much easier. Torches, folk have there favourites or ones that they find work well with a host of night vision. I use paul bakers PBIR and IR lightbeams. Both more than capable for what distances i am shooting. I use thermal to see a heat source and NV to id as i have walked distances sure it was a fox to get close and it was brock!!
