Fox shooting distance

As alluded to a couple of times above, my take on it is that it all depends on your local terrain. It's easy for those of us with 'close' country around us to forget that some people live in places where 300 yard shots are a necessity, not a choice.

My other comment is that it's interesting to see that on what is potentially a contentious subject, we've managed three pages of posts without the whole thing collapsing into a frenzy of maliciousness. Had this been about deer, I'd have given it about two minutes!

Hi Paddy
agree 100%
The foxes I grass are from 50 to near on 250 yds and all calibre dependant, I’m not a lover of elevation and spend my practice time knowing the capabilities of me, the rifle and the range, I keep my eye in on out to 300 and use the best calibre from using the 22 hornet, 204, 222 and 243 for foxing as a rule of thumb distance rules the day
just finished a few days out on the lambing fields with the 222 - tonight the 204 and the hornet come into play as it suits the range and terrain where i’ll be tonight these two fit the bill, getting used to the 204 more now as it’s relatively new to me 150 yd shot with that perfect smack in between the hornet and the duce and a straight no nonsense shot, just the job

2 dropped last night in the lambing fields, that’s 6 this week off the same fell farm with some seriously rough terrain of crags and steep fell, first one dropted at 184 yards and second was grassed at 264yards, 22-250 with 50 grain accutip.

400 yds. !!!!!! i can’t even shoot that far or accurately enough in the daylight, let alone at night whoever can do that must have some special rifle and optics or they meant 400 feet and had a typo - 400 yds is a hell of a way out there,

400 yds on paper is one thing

You're lucky, I can't even see that far, and if I could the fox would be hidden by the reticule.🤣🤣
