fox while deer stalking

Our associations (whoever we give our money to) should offer assistance and support BUT only for the out of the norm circumstances. We should all ensure we are self sufficient for the everyday dealings with the Police.

They are neither 'Bully Boys' nor 'Walkovers' but folk doing the job they are paid for the way they see it should be done. We all have our own point of view and from personal experience know there will be many occasions when we see the work of the Police differently to the way they do.

However the law is pretty specific in most instances and if we or they are at variance then as far as I am concerned we need to tell each other quite clearly if that the other is wrong.

Yes, it would be nice if they all sang from the same hymn sheet. There are not different laws in England about speeding!

It's not fair and it certainly aint right for a force to take it upon themselves to deliberatly mislead folk about their rights. It's wrong

I expect better from our police

As far as they are concerned they are not.

As and when it affects you - i t is up to you to advise them they are incorrect.

Remember at the end of the day they are our 'servants' and their employ is paid for out of our pockets for our benefit.

It is a pity that they don't see it that way.

Remember most of the FEOs are only civilians (the same as you and I) and often with a lot less 'knowledge' than we ourselves have.

Sadly this is true and one of the by-products of this is a frightening lack of knowledge about stalking in particular.

I was recently having an argument with my local FEO about his refusal to put boar on my .270 despite providing proof of a booking to stalk them. Incidentally he was the one who made the comments I quoted in a previous post about any shooting of a fox with a rifle not authorised for use on foxes was unlikely to result in a prosecution.

Number one worry was that his refusal was partially based on his belief that boar did not need culling which is clearly nothing to do with his remit in processing FACs, and the second worry was that during the conversation he revealed that he thought that all deer stalking took place "behind the wire" on estates which is an incredible degree of ignorance from someone who processes many deer stalkers' FACs.

His final excuse for not giving me boar on my FAC was that "his Chief Constable did not want to be a ground breaker on this" despite the fact that I had complied with all the Home Office guideline requirements on this.

To cut a long story short I used the stalker's rifle and got my boar but I am still annoyed at their attitude.

Seems that it's very regular occurence, surley this should be tackled once and for all by Basc. FEO's are clearly operating outside their remit, I had troube recently getting a 243 for fox control, stating it was a fox/deer calibre, but they were prepared to give me a 22.250 straight off the cuff
Was then instructed by my Firearms office to attend a centrefire safety course(which I did a a cost of £130), and was then told no, because the course was insufficientand they did not know what it was., even though the course been arranged by the chie of policef, and the training school.

I later founf out that they had no right to demand that I attend a course of ANY kind.
Heated phone calls were made and it appears that It is going through, still its been five weeks since I sent the variation in, and its still not back yet

Pretty poor really. I'm fed up with the inconsistency. It's about time it was sorted

Just reviewing this thread it is interesting that the quoted wording on JayB's and Wadashot's FAC is almost exactly the same. This means that it must have been lifted from some advisory document or template available to Constabularies.

It would be interesting to know what this was.

Well my variation came back and the .243 was granted. Guess what came back with it! Land resrictions on my two rimfires that I never had before.
Oh yeah, and they granted me a .17 silencer for the .243 what a balls up. FAC has to go back AGAIN for correction.
