Foxes

Lets get back on topic for a while :D
Out this evening to see what was about, shot a few bunnies, and then along came Mr Fox
Squeaked in from about 170 yards, shot taken at 60 ish yards, just as he turned away after seeing me.
Shot him just left of centre of neck from behind.

The 40 grain Nosler BT did it's job again.

This chap was taken last August....you can just about see what he has caught and was munching on when we met up !!!

Good enough reason I think

The one I shot on Tuesday evening was sitting as cool as you like in a field full of sheep, hard to say what his plans were but needless to say they didn't come to fruition.

Cheers + ATVB

Shot my first cub (of the year) this morning about 0600. It was a dog and pretty big I think it must have been from an early litter.

I was out stalking and noticed him sunning himself on the banking about 75 yards away.

He did not agree with my 80g bullet :D

The little bugger was only about 100 yards from the pheasant pen!

I heard a family of foxes will eat 1 ton of food from birth of cubs to them living independant lives away from the parents. It also heard 50% of roe deer are eaten by fox within a few days of birth.

Paddy, I see the Reds in that field on the link road and some Roe just past the Picnic area on the way back to South Molton at the bottom of the long hill, you stalk there?

I was on 'my' bit of ground there again last night - for two reasons. Firstly to give the farmer an owl box we'd made for his linhay, where a lovely barn own roosts. As there isn't anywhere in there for it to nest, I thought it'd be a good idea to provide it with something suitable! Secondly, I wanted to see if any cubs were in the area - earlier this year the farmer lost a lot of young lambs to foxes (until I attended to the problem), so I wanted to be seen to be getting ahead of the game... After handing over the nest-box - for which the farmer was very grateful, I went out with the caller and the .22-250 / NV rig. After about five minutes of 'High-pitched snowshoe hare' (which Charlie seems to love), a small dog-fox appeared. He didn't make it back to the safety of cover...:)

Shooting and Conservation in action, well done on the fox Paddy, an good on you for the Owl box, must admit I have a soft spot for Barn Owls having rescued an injured one off the link road not too far away from there many years ago.

I went for a little poke around yesterday evening, more of an armed stroll than anything else. What do you know; I had hardly been through two fields before I spied Mr Charles…

Then about 45 minutes later this very mangy old vixen, face half covered by an abscess, crossed my path

Not a bad result, however, we won’t really get going until the crop comes off

Been busy again. Yesterday morning my neighbour came round on his quad to tell me that he had just seen 3 foxes in his paddock & to ask "what was I going to do about them?" ... well it seemed churlish not to.

So out I went at about six thirty, set up & then about an hour later, this red 'un crossed the field, heading towards an old game pen

Having dispatched it, I sat out until dark but no sign of t'other two. Oh well, there's always another night & besides the crops will be off in another couple of weeks ... then we can get out with the lamps :D

Our trucks never leave the kerb without lamping gear, our lamping is year round, we are always higher than the crop, or are in a position to intercept before they enter maize or similar.

Correct. We have a lot of standing crop, however Miss Saturday Day came out of some willow beds & was crossing a grass field which only had half a dozen rams in it & was heading towards some woodland, which is why I was able to ambush her

Good shooting I have only just started on the local foxes here in Northumberland to date I have shot two, hopefully when more of the crops are cut I will get into them, nice picture by the way.

Well done bet the farmer was pleased, just started in Northumberland shot two up to now with hopefully more to follow, been told plenty going about?

I don't see "Potman" off here too regularly, as his work keeps him busy (permanent nightworker :( ), but he came round yesterday & we went to sort out another chicken chomper, not far from my place, I was impressed with the new version of an old favourite I found on eBAY ( blow through reed squeeker) & the job was completed & back home by 10.50pm........

I have discovered that it'th OK to fox in thuthex, but you don't wanna thtray into ethex. Thum people get very touchy if you do that!

CSL... Did David BASC stop you pending yet?

Hi Foxhunter,
Well done, I shot seven cubs last week but they were a lot smaller than yours, I've just posted a couple of pic's.
Is that a Tikka T3 you're holding? I've just put in for a .243 on my ticket and I'm trying to decide what to get, I like the T3, how do you get on with it?
Is it a .223 or a .243?
'Trouble is I've just seen Hornets photo with his X bolt in it, now I'm wondering about one of those!
