Good luck on this, I am a novice stalker who has been taken under the wing of someone such as yourself, his view is at the moment he's killed enough deer, I took my DSC a year ago, and wouldn't not have done it, but in the 18 months I've been going out with him his kindness has been immense, and I have learned so much, it's unbelievable, but I still have far more to learn from him than I know now. I've had 4 deer during my last 5 outings with him, 2 from high seats and 2 on foot, last nights a roe buck we stalked into 70 yards. Just because he's shot enough deer doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy venison, so we go halfs on all the deer I take, last night he said I was ready to go on my own, on foot, and he would clear it with the land owner, I took this as a massive compliment.

Hes never charged me a penny for taking me out, and is offended every time I insist on buying either breakfast or dinner after, saying it's the least I can do. Without such generous people as yourself and my friend the world of stalking would be a more empty place with learning from books and in classrooms having a place but nowhere near the same as a lifetimes experience.

jono !its nice to know you appreciate just what you have been given ,it will stand you in good stead for the rest of your stalking life ,i was fortunate when i started almost 30 years back to be taken under someones wing ! some things you cant learn from books or classrooms !

Hi Yoda, I semi meet your requirement in that I'm local(ish), and am a shooter .... but am also an occasional stalker and am getting on in years myself... however, if you don't get a response from an ideal candidate please keep me in mind.

Totally agree with making changes. I'm still getting out and about but nothing like 10 years ago. Not used the old series Land Rover for a few years because it's so uncomfortable and my belly won't fit behind the wheel!
Time for a Disco me thinks.
One good thing out the back of the house is a field which holds all the wild life you can think of, Deer included.
I wonder if the next door neighbours wood hear a 30.06 going off from the bedroom window!

What about getting someone to chauffeur you about in your Land Rover, giving them the opportunity to shoot now and again

Great offer Yoda and hopefully you will find a suitable stalker. I know how you feel, disability and failing health have forced me to give up my grounds this year. In fact I am going to sell all my kit from Quad to reloading gear, its taking a while to get used to the idea but you have to be realistic. Anyone got a been there done that tee shirt .

Due to a serious disability I packed in completely, No stalking, fishing or shooting, but I was stubburn and refused to let my guns go.
I let all my shooting out and left things be for 2 years, then as I improved and started driving I took others out and showed them where to go etc.
I started shooting a couple of years later and stalking some three years after that.
I have to be carefull what I do and respect my limitations, but its amazing what one can do if one tries.
The only thing that worries me now is the medication Iam on, the law is changing this year and anyone caught driving on certain medication can be banned, I supect that FAC will not be issued to peple on the same meds.
I shall know later in the year.

Hi Yoda,
I had a similar problem so I set up DAGS. We are a informal bunch with 5 trainees and a number of experienced stalkers. We have a great craic and are always looking for more opportunities to bring more youngsters into the sport.

Gentlemen, it looks as though Yoda has a full in box, no surprise there . In his last post on this subject he has suggested that he has enough people to look over as potential candidates.

Therefore I am locking the thread, unless Yoda wishes it to be re opened, in which case I would be grateful if he could let Admin know.
