The site and its valued supporters are once again paying for 6 members of this site to be put through their DSC1.
( This will not include the meat hygiene certificate)
This will be through the BDS.
Venue is Kettering in Northants.
Date is 7th to 9th July 2023.
It is up to the lucky winners to arrange their own transport, accommodation if needed. PLEASE make sure if you win a place you do NOT suddenly back out at the last minute. If you do you will be required to pay the site back to the tune of £295.00.

For those that want to apply you must have been a member of this site for 3 months. You do not need to be a BDS member, and you do not need a rifle as an estate rifle will be available, ammo to be charged for.

If you wish to be included in the draw please PM me your full name, address, DOB, Email address, mobile number, and FAC number if you have one. Without this info you will not be included in the draw. The Draw will take place at the end of this month.
Your details will be sent to BDS, and from that point it is up to you to correspond with them, NOT ME.

Details of the course can be found on the BDS website under Courses Kettering.

Good luck all who are taking part this weekend. Such a great way for the SD team to give back to the sport. I was lucky enough to be selected last year and will be forever grateful of the opportunity!
If I could offer any advice, it would be to do your studying and use the estate rifle. The guys at BDS said there was a large portion of candidates who failed the shooting test when using their own rifle vs those using the estate rifle, even those who were very experienced shots.

I am one of the participants this weekend, thank you for all the good lucks!!

Been studying hard and using the online tests (getting high 90% plus on most tests now). Still feeling a bit nervous, not sat a test since leaving collage 30 years ago!

Intrigued about using the estate rifle vs my own. I thought the estate rifle was only available to BDS members (which I am not) but also using my own would be better as it would be more familiar. I have bought the targets but not had a chance to get out with them (self employed and heavy workload at the moment).

I am kind of torn now whether to take my rifle or not, why would using the estate rifle make more candidates pass?

I’m not surprised at that comment about using the estate rife. Let’s face it, a lot of people’s kit is junk when they are starting out, either new but cheap and nasty or old worn out hand me downs whereas most estate rifles are rock solid mid to upper range items that the instructors or pro stalkers have absolute confidence in or they wouldn’t even bring them out.

Part of the reason for using the estate rifle is that it will just have had it's zero checked. There will not be time on the day for you to check the zero of your own rifle, so if it's got knocked in transit or anything like that then you're screwed.

(Having said that, I used my own rifle and it was fine. In fact, most people used their own rifles. However, not all were fine, even the experienced shots).

Let us know how you get on.

I'm going to be using the estate rifle as the one I had planned to use is due to be delivered on Monday 🙄 and my previous rifle is now gone. Probably for the best really as it would have all been a rush getting set up.

You'll be able to sit back and listen to all the excuses rolling in from those who've just shot abysmally with their own rifles. The most experienced stalkers with the most expensive kit will start laying down the excuses before they've even fired a shot:
"I think I might have knocked the scope this morning when I was getting it out of the cabinet
" etc etc.
😂😂😂

Oh well. It happens. At least you're blaming yourself not the rifle or the weather or the tutor (all of which were no doubt excellent!).
