Good day all. As stated I am from the USA. Ive been hunting since I was 12 and will be 62 next month. My favorite caliber is .243 Win for deer, varmints, and target. Been reloading for 30 years. Also have (2) 270 Win., 338 WM., 35 Whelen, many shotguns, and pistols. My 243 has the second barrel because I burned the first one out. Its a Ruger 77.

I signed on here because one night I ran across one of your members (Tuck) who is looking for a Speer 80gr bullet. I looked and happen to have 200 so have been in contact with him and they are in the mail to him. I tend to buy at sales so have a substantial inventory.

I used to write about 1 article a year for The Varmint Hunter Magazine. Its now defunct so don't write so much anymore.

Ive hunted deer in 4 states, pigs in 4 states, coyote in 7 states and elk in 1 state. I am third generation Dutch in the USA. Fortunate that relatives own a lot of farm land. About 1 mile wide by 8 miles long. I spend a lot of time killing groundhogs and crow on it. I do a lot of shooting but never enough.

Hope you all don't mind if I listen in.

Welcome to SD, Michigan is an excellent state for whitetail hunting is it not? It would be great to read some stories about the hunting that you guys do over there.

Welcome "Jagrob" I had the pleasure of 2 weeks in Montana a few years ago and loved it but don't know much about Michigan. Do you have any bears on your ground?

Hi

Welcome and enjoy your time on SD.
It would be great to read some of your articles from the TVH magazine if you would share...

Welcome to the site. There are a few of us Americans here, and I think we all give the varmints a whirl between other endeavors.

Are you a Yooper?

Welcome!

I'm real surprised to learn the "Varmint Hunter" journal has gone udders up but perhaps I shouldn’t be given the last copy I purchased was circa 1997! Managed to get a letter printed post 9/11 but the one article I wrote for the then Editor proved far too “conversational” for her and, I suspect, shot-through with irony. Is Mr. Kindler’s “Small Calibre News” still going?

Nothing wrong with the 243 for both deer and varmints but if you hang around SD long enough you’re bound to be counselled otherwise!

All the best

Hi there Jagrob as a third generation Dutch would that be based around Grand Rapids? I had six months working in Holland Michigan in 1994 and managed to do a little unsuccessful deer hunting on public land.

welcome, I have a whole stack of varmint hunter mags, and I too favour the 243 w for varmints and deer, look forward to hearing some great hunting tales. :thumb:
