Hey DB - this also applies to foxes!

I had to switch to a 940 laser because they were so twitchy as soon as I switched on the torch, range isn’t as good but still plenty long enough. Possibly because the caravan brigade frequent the place.Had a scan round last night. Mouth squeak at a fox 300 yds away. I never seen a fox move so fast, tracked him over half a kilometre, he never stopped running like a lurcher on steroids. Saw another one half an hour later, similar result but a cub this time. Jeez, returned home feeling a little bit peeved that someone round here is messing up. Change of tactics, both foxes knew there was an IR lamp on them, knew what a squeak was. An hour or two spent on reconnaissance is never wasted.
Bakers meaty chunks & silence usually sorts things out, luckily I have a light that switches between 940 & 850. Light shy foxes get spooked by the IR flash on game cams too, they feed for a very short time, but return briefly at odd times. The old battery alarm clock trick is usually the way to go. After a long period of baiting they can turn up shortly after dark.I had to switch to a 940 laser because they were so twitchy as soon as I switched on the torch, range isn’t as good but still plenty long enough. Same with me, the 940nm laser is the way forward. I used a best fox call squeaker on this one, called him in from about 300m to 100m where I reckon he could see the glow out the back of the sight and got spooked. Too late for him though.I had to switch to a 940 laser because they were so twitchy as soon as I switched on the torch, range isn’t as good but still plenty long enough. Been looking at 940nm what range are they effective tooSame with me, the 940nm laser is the way forward. I used a best fox call squeaker on this one, called him in from about 300m to 100m where I reckon he could see the glow out the back of the sight and got spooked. Too late for him though.

Thanks ill have a look i currently use a dark engine which is superbI’m using a LL wraith x3, easily identify to 200+ yds with the 940.
840nmThanks ill have a look i currently use a dark engine which is superb
Anything from 120 to 160 yds, for a clear shot, depends on how much moon/natural light there is. Can ID fox at over 200 but not a crisp picture for a shot. You can ID at ranges much further than that by eyeshine once you know behaviour, they keep flashing on & off.Been looking at 940nm what range are they effective too
Sounds good , I've had a couple spook when I flick on the irAnything from 120 to 160 yds, for a clear shot, depends on how much moon/natural light there is. Excellent think ill pick one up, id be right in assuming that there is no red glow from the 940Maybe these images will help you make up your mind. Bear in mind the photo quality from a C50 is not as clear as what you see in the sight but hopefully this will give you an idea of the performance of a 940nm laser and a C50.
940nm PBIR-L on the widest beam. No moon, no artificial light. There was a slight ground mist which reduced clarity a bit. Through the scope, the image is clearer than this.
The stick with a bag hanging from it is at 100m, deer at 120m.

C50 and PBIR-L 940nm. No moon, no artificial light, no mist on the ground. I would estimate this hare was at around 100m.

Hare and deer are NOT on my quarry list

Foxes, and deer, badgers, hares etc can clearly see the 850, though how much it concerns them probably depends on their learned experience, but with the 940 I don’t see even a flicker of concern.Excellent think ill pick one up, id be right in assuming that there is no red glow from the 940
