Afternoon all,

Looking to do a game meat handling course down in Sussex in order to sell deer onto a game dealer, but they seem to be rare and sporadic…Does anyone know of an venues that put them on a bit more regularly?

Thanks in advance

Sorry, forgot to add, as the title suggested, in addition to the game meat hygiene course, any tips regarding game butchery would also be appreciated.

I don't know anyone who runs them in isolation, have you done your DSC1? If so and it did not include Meat Handling then DSC2?

As to butchery courses if you are member of BDS, BASC or NGO I'd suggest contacting them to see if they have any coming up.

Online the Scott Rea Project videos are very good

Sorry for my delay mate, really appreciate the reply. Not done the DSC1 yet, had a mentor for quite a while though, just wanted to expand my knowledge further with the processing side.

Great tip about the BASC, been a member for a while, didn’t think to contact them direct. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole with Scott area now too…

How far are you willing to travel? And if reasonably priced accommodation just five minutes off the M1 were nearby? Try Donington Deer Management. My son's mother did a one afternoon hands on session. He shoots three deer. He field dresses one, the next you both do, the third you do. You then go back to his larger and process one into "traditional" cuts and the other into "modern" cuts that maximise the number of "steaks".

BASC have a Level 1 in East Sussex in April Deer Stalking Certificate 1 – BASC – Events and Courses.

Upon contacting them I learned that they are no longer offering training.

I am also looking for similar hands-on training on gralloching/meat handling so any pointers would be much appreciated...
