Gamefair anybody bothering?

Haven’t read through the posts so don’t know if this was mentioned already or not but lot of trade stands saying unless security is upped next year they won’t be going as too many gyp0s stealing and one lady had her entire stock taken from her van when they followed her back to the hotel

Back to the OP.. I went with Mrs Ade8mm and Son.
Son vanished immediately and didn't see him until the next morning, he was meeting up with friends. (I still have no idea how or when he got home!) We only live about 8 miles away and got in free.
Had we driven three hours to get there and then pay I have to say I would have been heartily disappointed.
Very poor show on the fishing front, only a couple of exhibitors.
Gunmakers row was clearly rfds trying to shift mostly crap stock.
A distinct lack of larder equipment and decoying gear ( only saw one stand selling decoys - but nothing that floated my boat)
Plenty of car-boot type stands 😱 and an amazing amount of obese people! Probably wont bother next time. What a shame.
😎

First and most likely the last Game fair for me, to busy fending off Pikey's trying to nick gear off of everyone's stand. one Pikey come in and said he needed a Thermal for illegal Hare coursing, I told him he wouldn't be buying one from our stand, they've no shame. I did hear a great story though from an Irishman how he disabled several of them with a can of Lynx in the eyes:)

An lot of people commenting on the number of pikeys, but I didn't see anyone fitting that description..... Until I walked past that wall of mirrors on the way out..... Looked pretty ragged after 3 evenings in the bar and 3 nights in a tent.
Guys, I think you might be referring to me and my family 🤔:lol:

Got there 08:15 on Friday, free entry for Mrs N and myself, £40 for in show parking still worth it.

Met friends had good picnic with a couple of bottles of decent fizz.

Picked up a couple of RM Williams jumpers, got a deal 👍 , Enjoyed looking over the Inios Grenadier (I want one).

Better than last year.

Could not persuade myself to spend £300+ on a knife, but might have done so before the Stalking Show comes around next year.

Jury still out re Gamefair but already looking forward to Stalking Show. Will definitely give the Shooting Show a miss.

Why doesn’t Game Fair have a police presence that is visible? I know the MGF had its problems with those visitors who wanted to “Pick Their Own”, but at least there’s is some form of visible legal interaction. The Game Fair has security, but with no or very little powers and that is why Game Fair is becoming an attraction for the PYO people. Maybe if Game Fair addressed the security aspect and the costs, more of the trade would attend? Went on Friday and thought visitor turnout was pretty good, but Gunmakers Row is in no way as big as the CLA days (which was also in decline before it became The Game Fair). BSS and The Stalking Show are in my view more interesting than Gunmakers Row.

Rather refreshing I think, in this day and age, that an event can be run with that many firearms on display and being carried about, without anyone feeling the need to cram the place full of police officers.
The Royal Welsh Show, on the other hand, has armed police patrolling the site throughout the event, as does the much smaller Spring Festival held on the same showground.

It may be good, but when as an exhibitor, the ‘help yourself: brigade come onto your stand and try to walk off with free goods, then you need some form of deterrent. I exhibited one year at Blenheim and as 2 of the staff are ex police, we managed to get back some gear back that had “walked” off the stand, together with a number of dog leads and fishing accessories, as they were dropped, only to see other stand holders become victims. We returned the stolen gear to the relevant stand holders, who were not aware of the thefts. Security followed the help yourself brigade around but then lost sight of them. On another occasion, lucky enough to have an ex special forces person helping out. Unfortunately the PYO person fell over and damaged his ankle, didn’t see him again.

What was occurring for armed police? Royalty or Politicians. It would be rather unusual for a just in case job
Just a precaution. Been an armed presence during the show for a number of years now. Events of that size are considered to be potential terrorist targets.

It’s interesting and sad that the Gamefair was so poorly attended by fishing related stands. My recollection of the last one I attended is Fisherman’s Row put all others to shame.

Are there now Shows, such as those dedicated to Shooting/Stalking, for all things piscatorial?

If not perhaps this is a further indication of how powerful internet driven sales are and/or a desire by the fishing community to further distance themselves from so-called fieldsports?

Equally poorly attended by stalking related stands. Having said that, there were three companies selling modular cold rooms this year, which I haven't seen there before, but apart from that just one stand selling highseats, plus a very meagre offering of 2nd rifles hidden away amongst the many hundreds of shotguns on display. No larder or butchery equipment anywhere, no hoists or sleds or anything like that.

I blame the SD Trade Membership program.

Trying not to be negative but one of the main attractions for me apart from a day out and meet up with others now and then was gunmakers row. Plenty stands with many fine examples of British gunmakers art, pigeon guns and the likes and interesting German stalking rifles, real treasure troves of interest. All this no longer happens as time has moved on. Anyways not been for years but wonder if the stealing and hassles have always been such or is this a more recent trend?
