Garage Conversion Deer Larder - Part 1

Can i ask what fridge you use please
I’m using a Landig LU7000 with an additional hanging rail which gives me a bit more flexibility and hanging space.

Although the internal dimensions are very similar to the LU9000 model, if I was buying another I’d go for the LU9000 which has less shelving ridges on the sides and would be marginally quicker to clean.

Really happy with the Landig though, I’ve had it for a few years, it’s very economical to run and gets down to temperature very quickly after being switched on and is well designed and easy to clean.

Do you think the LU9000 could fit 2 fallow in? Im going to invest in one after the Christmas holidays

Would be good to get a ball park sense of what a project like this might cost when you get there? I’ve got the space to do something similar but doubt I’ve the cash for it sadly.

How are you getting on with the larder now you’ve had chance to get some use of it? Would you make any changes?

Looks absolutely amazing mate! Well done!
Quite similar to mines.
I put in an accessible trap outside and very glad I did as there's a surprising amount of **** that goes down the channel drain even though I normally put a tray under the hanging rail when skinning etc.. I also had problems with the drain so that drain doctor was able to put his hose down via the roddable trap which saved the day!
As someone else said, a pir sensor for your light comes in really handy to save any mess around switch and saves leaving the light on too!
The only other thing I done was I installed trace heating on my water supply pipe as the pipe comes from neighbours house and is about 20m long ,I didn't want to risk any burst pipes in their property.
I have a fan to install as others have also said just to keep abit of airflow in the room, one of many things on my to do list 😀

Still not quite finished, still to add a sliding door.
As a space it’s working very well though, super easy to clean down and having an initial “receiving” area which allows me to put deer on to the main hanging rail without lifting them is proving to be a brilliant fluke.

Some examples of it in use.

Hi. What’s the mincer you are using there?

I was also going to ask, having just done my game handling course, is it true that all the water from your larder has to go into a separate tank rather than into the main foul water system? Seems crazy given what else goes into that system! Feels like a deal breaker for me which would force me into using a butcher rather than trying to process beyond initial storage. Is that what others are doing too?

Regarding the drainage, I’m in Scotland and there’s no issue with it continuing to go into the main sewerage drain as it did before I added the larder.
Especially given the gralloching process that is undertaken in the field, the fact I don’t hose out carcasses, and that any clotted blood is binned rather than hosed down the drain, the average amounts of blood entering the drain on a weekly basis will be less than 500ml and will not cause any issues at all.

That looks a quality mincer. And it sounds like the Scottish laws are a lot more sensible than the English ones here! A separate tank can’t be affordable unless you are working and selling at quite a large scale. It’s beyond me anyway. You’ve done a great project there - I’m very envious.

larder is looking top class. As it stands is this up to food standards? I’m contemplating taking this as a blue print for my garage and doin similar. But would be all just for own consumption and processing ready to send to game dealer in the jacket
