GnT?

It's gin o'clock!

I have been definitely more adventurous in lockdown in exploring the more exotic gins. Goodness knows how I will ever reconcile myself to going back to a pub and living with the Gordons or Bombay choice.

If you had really decent gin then you would not need to put Fever Tree with it. I discovered this when I splashed out on a bottle of Henstone gin, absolutely stunning gin and just needs normal tonic. Reason why everybody uses FT is that most bog standard gins are soo blend and the taste comes from the tonic! FT is a very profitable company and very clever marketing. Henstone is made in Oswestry and is bottled at 44.9%

The alternative is to look on Brew Geenie web site and by some proper gin flavourings and buy a cheap bottle of vodka and add indicated ammount and bingo something drinkable.

My late father used to drink a bottle of gin in a day. And you'd be hard put to even know. But then as he was an alcoholic only when on a "bender" otherwise he never drank at all. Not even beer or wine. Aged seventeen I once managed a bottle of gin in twenty hours whilst on a ship from Copenhagen to Tilbury. And ever since can't stand the smell or taste of it. Those that can still enjoy it are lucky. I can't.
Exactly this, Sailing from Shetlands to Teeside many years ago I shared a 1ltr bottle with another lad and ever since then I can barely look at a bottle of gin never mind taste the stuff. I'll stick with the Rum or Whisky

Tonic? Sorry, but if I'm drinking gin it'll be as a Pink Gin. (No, not that ghastly rhubard infused bollx): Tumbler full of ice, three shakes of Angostura bitters, double measure gin (Plymouth if you're a purist) , stir, strain into a cocktail glass as soon as you care to (the ice waters the gin down more the longer you leave it) then zest a lemon over the glass letting a few bits drop into the gin.
