GPS collar. Dogtra Pathfinder 2 Mini OR Dogtrace X30

With a Teckel pup on the way I'm doing a bit of research into GPS collars. I don't envisage doing much (any?) hardcore tracking work with her, but I'm keen on a GPS to serve as both a training/working tool and for peace of mind when out and about.

I like the look/price of the Dogtra and Dogtrace (confusing...) units. Both use a smartphone for their mapping feature, although the Dogtrace has basic display on the unit itself whereas the Dogtra looks as if it relies on the phone app for all the information. Both come with a "mini" option for little dogs.

Any experience of either or both units? The Dogtrace seems to be popular in Europe...

It might pay to start with something like Tractive and see how the pup progresses. If it's a nose-down-and FCUK-you type then you might want to invest in something better but if it is pretty steady then a Tractive type would probably do.

Yes, I'll have to see what sort of personality she has for sure. The current teckel, now a bit too old for (much) foolishness was mostly very reliable and would walk loosely to heal and hunt close by for the most part, but was prone once in a whole to buggering off over the horizon without warning. If she turns out like him, a "proper" system might not be necessary.
