How long after your FEO interview is a reasonable time to wait ? Im Scotland based Glenrothes department and I did my interview in late Nov and it was sent off for approval in December with the FEO supporting my application. heard cock all and buck fever is really getting to me lol. Phoned FEO sounds like it is out his hands but confirmed it was still awaiting being signed off about a month ago I spoke to him and have emailed the license department since about a week ago and got no response. 7 Months seems a kinda p*ss take if you ask me ? or am I being unreasonable ? I really don't know but to my mind 7 months is enough time to go yay or nae Cheers Gus

You are not being unreasonable. Thats an utter disgrace.
That’s how I feel about it as-well too, I see no rhyme or reason it should ever take this long and the FEO’s own words was “That’s taking the p*ss” but I still have heard nothing

At a loss with what I can do though as seems out of FEO hands and when I email in I get told should be soon or most recently I’ve just been blanked it seems

That's extremely odd. Everyone I know in Scotland who's had an application in has got it turned around in 16 weeks. That's this year, 2025. Do you have a health or convictions history that might be taking them longer to consider, perhaps? If not, you could perhaps enquire to the general mail box asking if whoever currently has it could give you an update?

Phoned this morning, I did have issues with Anxiety and depression in the past (no convictions) which is why it’s taking longer but FEO was all happy and fully supports my application had no issues with it so I know it’s that but I did expect it to take longer for consideration because of such things of course but not 7 months lol. Apparently I’m 2nd in the queue now
Hopefully once I have it when I renew eventually it will be quick and normal times

That's still quite odd. I guess it might be a symptom of the post-Keyham over correction that's gone on surrounding anyone with any mental health issues? Best of luck, though. I hope it comes through soon. The first grant is always the hardest, so long as you keep squeaky clean afterwards!

Look I’ll not dive into the reasons for having had Anxiety or depression but it was very well reasoned I’ll say that I think you’d be hard pushed to find someone who would have responded differently to that same continuous situation. None the less obviously it’s important for licensing to know ect and I had no squabbles with that at all. But I’m as far from a maniac as you could get so I see no reason why it’s taking this long, I’m guessing it’s workload and it’s maybe had to go higher up the chain again to be looked at maybe.
But as you say if they don’t know me personally they need to assess it at face value and perhaps other crimes with guns and the reasons for such makes them more nervous idk

Just ****es me off it’s 7 months post interview and not a peep, my neighbour/friend applied for his aswell and still not heard and he’s past 16 weeks so must be delays anyways
Cheers

My father has been waiting for his SGC interview / grant for 18 months. February 2024 he applied to our current force, shortly after moving house and settling in the new area.

He only shoots clays once in a while, currently accompanied by me. Put his application in mainly for practicality, i.e. so he can own, store and transport his own gun if he feels like a quick round of 50 one afternoon while I'm at work.

He's chased monthly since the 1 year point, always being told the same thing - "it's being processed", "you're close to the top of the list", "X isn't in the office but I'll pass on your message" etc etc.

Absolute disgrace, to be blunt. Their web page still currently advises 'Certificates are typically issued in four months'

They state 16 months for FAC grants, so by their maths, if I apply now, I may have an interview by the end of the decade

Yeh av fully given up, apparently 2nd in the Queue for signing off but have been for months 😂😂 absolute bae ache waiting just want to get out on the ground I’ve got n also head to the clays

Are you a BASC member, if so they might help?
If your asking me ? Then yeh I am but I’m kinda not wanting to get in the wrong side of licensing by using BASC to force them to hurry up but on the the other hand I want to as it’s been that long and god knows how much longer it’ll be.

They are taking the p*ss. Either Grant or decline, I’d get BASC involved.

I’m in Essex, so very different. Also suffered from work-related anxiety and depression, but had previously been granted an SGC with no issue.

It took my FEO 7 months to come and see me for my FAC grant, it would have then taken two weeks to get my actual FAC but the FEO “forgot” they’d taken my SGC (I was going for coterminous), and the office was waiting for me to send it in. It took them three months to tell me that lol. So, without a little incompetence, and with a history of anxiety and depression, it would have only taken two weeks.

That’s kinda my issue, Grant it or decline it does it really warrant a 8 month wait post interview ?, my neighbours applied for his too and has still heard nothing post interview and that been over 3 months post interview for him aswell so defo delays anyways but why to the extent of 8 months so far ? Goodness knows but it’s taking the **** at this point I think when all you’re doing is examining the info and deciding. FEO fully supported my application so idk what the lengthy wait is
Might phone BASC and ask for advice

A friend just got his grant after 5 months in Aberdeenshire.

And even that is a pi55take!

Regards,
Gixer
Emailed in on Monday I think it was I forgot to say but heard nothing back, have emailed in twice and heard nothing first email was a few months ago
Waste of time phoning I think as-well u just get told “It’s in the process”
Even at 8 months post interview it’s still better than some in the deepest south who can be at 2a to 3 years which is absurd
