Grumpy Kalahari.

Good for you for clearing the road in the first place David.
I tend to have the bow saw in the back of the car if I'm going on backroads after the first storms of the year - always handy for clearing the small stuff....
You never know, the guilty timber rustler might just have thought you'd finished!:-| What goes around comes around.....I'm sure they'll get their comeuppance one day!
Yeah, I’m not a fan of clearing windfall trees as they are the most dangerous, especially a big beech like this….would wanted to guess the weight but I did get the saw trapped at one point as the main trunk upper went the opposite way than expected….

So in wales are you guys allowed to keep anything you clear?? Up here you’d get done for stealing!

I did have one of my own trees that needed cleaned up so got some birch to split…

No idea what the "rules" say, but around here (North Wales) if you were being helpful and clearing fallen timber from a public road then you'd certainly keep the timber, or at least a proportion of it. Maybe leave some logs stacked tidily behind the hedge for whoever's tree it was.
Having said that, some people can get a bit possessive about their trees, even if they have fallen down and blocked the road. In which case you just put the saw away and suggest they clear it themselves, and make as if to leave. This usually results in a compromise arrangement.

If a tree of mine blows onto the road I do try to clear it myself, otherwise I know that most of the timber will be gone, although even the Council boys do usually leave a few logs out of courtesy.

The problem would be up here people would claim it was in the road just to get free fire wood! At £175/tattie box for hardwood, people make serious money scavenging wood - although I feel the price is away to rapidly drop on timber! 😂😂
