Gun Dog Training Book Recommendations

I’m looking for any recommendations for decent books on gundog training.

We have a young Norfolk terrier who seems to really enjoy retrieving and I’m pretty certain that he would be game enough for a bit of beating.

While he is destined to be a “pet” and being a terrier is never going to be a “gundog” I'm thinking training him as such will do him no harm and help me to give his active brain some focus!

Joe Irvines ‘Gundogs, Their Learning Chain‘ is what I started with and find myself basing most of my training on.

Thing I also tell everyone I speak to about this is read the book before you get the dog / start the training because then you will understand the whole process, then go back to the start and work your way through.

Have a look at Lez Graham’s books - The Pet Gundog Puppy and The Pet Gundog. Mrs Gunn and I found them really good.

Let us know how the training goes. My late mother-in-law bred Norfolk’s and Norwich’s. Lovely dogs!
They are a lovely little terrier, not too many breeders and not very well known so they have relatively few health issues.

Pup is a very quick learner, and we are working on his recall as he is quite bold and a bit of an adventurer! Here is this evenings efforts, he is 14 weeks old.

(Ignore the hens, they were at a work event….)
