does any one use h4895 powder in their 308 win?. i ask as hodgdon state for 150gr bullet its start load is 43gr and max of 45.5 gr.also for the 168gr vstart load is 41gr to max load of 43.5. i have run the figures though the p-max internal ballistics and its showing max pressur at just above hodgdon start load ? my usable case capacity is 43.8gr.

my usable case capacity is 43.8gr.
This seems awfully low. I don't use P-Max. But QL also shows you the usable case capacity. With a 150gn Hornady SP bullet seated at 2.700" (which is quite deep) I still get a usable capacity 49.2gn of water. Total case capacity is set at the .308 standard of 56gn of water.

H4895 is perfectly suitable for .308. I have used it in the past without any issues except for a bit more muzzle blast than usual. An indication that it is better suited for heavier than 150gn bullets.
But you will struggle to get your hands on any H4895 in the UK these days. It does not comply with REACH and hasn't been on the shelves for years.

I've just run a 150gn Barnes TTSX also set to 2.700". I am still getting 44.7gn of water usable capacity.

I‘m still using IMR 4895 in .308 and find it a very good powder albeit I was using 125gr Nosler BT and now 130gr TTSX. It’s a compressed load for me though.

I used it with the 130g TTSX until my supply ran out. H4895 is faster than N140 and in my opinion is better for lighter bullets in the 308

My favourite 308 powder.
Just load up to the base of the bullet or with a little compression go shoot. Adjust from there.

good morning excuse my stubby fingers my usable case capacity is 48.3 gr. thank you for your replies

Why are you screwing around with a ballistics app when Hodgdon's has a multi-million dollar ballistics lab they test their data in?? I shot 150's using 44 grns back in the day but that was with the H4895 made then. Follow Hodgdon's data.~Muir
