Harkila.

im not sure why not.. we have shops aiming at the "posh" selling their barbour and Musto and the likes. but not allot catering for the average outdoorsman .
Barbour, Musto, etc are cross-overs that appeal to a much wider range of people hence worth being stocked. Even Musto is feeling the pressure though and has closed some of its outlet stores surprising perhaps as they do well out of sailing and equestrian too.

i gues its the same as every other small retailer. Property rental. plus overheads of running a shop equate to allot nowadays. need a bloody good turnover before turning a penny of profit.
a big killer is shops like Next. look at there online. they stock ALLOT of big brands now at almost cost. so why would people go to the small retailer who needs a good markup when the big dog has it cheaper.
i know this first hand as my mother inlaw used to have a florists. but closed down due to big supermarkets selling at half the price.
big brand retailers and the internet have killed the small man. (personally id love a little gun room who has a good selection close to home) id shop there every time i needed somthing. but the sad fact is they are all gone.
there is very little in Edinburgh. think my best options to hamd would be Bywell and Weldon Bridge as i know they have (or used to have) good clothing selections.

But you have one of the best out there! @Edinburgh Rifles

Will this be your first Harkila purchase?

If so, I’d just relay my experience with Harkila in that every item, from Roe sacks to wellies have been substandard and with the Roe sack the stitching came loose after 1 use, and two separate pairs of very expensive wellies leaked after minimal use.

Jacket wise I’ve had no issues with Kuiu, Swazi or Stoney Creek.
Only the pro hunter trousers are any good imo the rest is overpriced and overrated

I agree on supporting the smaller retailer as much as i can afford to - if we don't they won't exist. We've got F Andersen's in East Grinstead - clothes and countrywear in one shop and next door the fun stuff. I'd always recommend them.

problem i have is stockists of said gear are 50/60 miles away. so pretty much a day trip out. (which personally id love) but with 3 young kids at home.. her indoors wouldn't be so keen.
Just an idea.....you could always try and plan a day trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park.......And then quietly calling in at Bushwear or Angling Active (does shooting gear as well as fishing gear), both not a million miles away!

i like this plan.. funny the mrs was just on about Blair Drummond

If you are in Edinburgh you have choices
Edinburgh rifles ( small but quality)
Edinburgh angling at Granton, far bigger choice of some great quality names
Livelines at Armadale
Bushwear in Perth
Cluny just over the bridge ( massive choice of quality gear )
Game and country at Selkirk , again lots of choice

I could go on. Whatever you decide , please don’t go to a shop and try sizes then buy online.

Whilst it’s tempting to do so, it’s responsible for the death of many shops and it makes my blood boil when I hear people doing it. You may save a couple of quid, but I guarantee one day you’ll wish the shop was still there.

I have some Harkila clothing, heavy windproof lined jumpers, shirts, trousers, base layers and all are really good. Expensive, but good. The boots used to be made in Asia, possibly China, but after complaints of poor quality, the manufacturing has been brought back into the EU and is said to be much improved.

Hey, how have these held up 6 months later? I’ve been looking at the Cervo Rossi, they look awesome but nearly £400!!!! 😱
absolutely phenomenal mate.. worth every penny in my opinion. and thats me wearing them on some seriously unforgiving ground.
well worn in. leather is like new! and by far the best boot ive ever wore in regards to ankle support, swear my leg would snap before my ankle rolled.
also extremely warm . i just wear normal sports socks nothing fancy . even after bogging in a ditch up to my knee boot filled with water after emptied i carried on with wet feet and was surprised at how remarkably warm and comfy they stayed.

wearing them to shoots and allot of guys have commented on how strong and sturdy they look and i can 100% vouch!

yes they are top end on price. but i took the age old (pay more pay once) gamble. and very glad to say this far its payed off!

Thanks for the update, sounds like you’ve really abused them and they’ve held up. Might have to treat myself soon 😜
