Hearing aids

Slightly off topic but does anyone use an implant?

That's a Cochlear implant. From what I understand, they give hearing, but without as much fidelity, since it's a microphone stimulating the audial nerve. I was supposed to have one of these implants, but after my tumor resection, the tumor had damaged the audial nerve too much, and it basically died (and I had already lost the stirrup and hammer). So they just stitched up the ear canal hole, and i was left SSD (Single Side Deaf).

The big thing about Cochlear implants is that they restore stereo hearing so you can locate where sound is coming from. Which is a bit different than hearing aids that enhance certain frequencies that have been lost due to damage to the inner ear (not necessarily the audial nerve).
