Hearing protection with hearing aids

I have just started wearing hearing aids and was wondering which over the ear protection to look at as i currently use moulded ear plugs the aids are nhs standard behind the ear ones

You really need to try some on to make sure you don't get any discomfort if your ear defenders squash your ear against the aid, or if you need to put them on in an uncomfortable position just to fit the aid within the muff itself. Failing that, it depends on your amount of hearing loss, but I have the Howard Leight Impact Sports and the volume does go higher than ambient so you may get away with taking your aids out while wearing them, but that depends on your prescription and if you have any extra programming in them such as tinnitus correction or stereo balancing to make up for a totally deaf ear etc.

I wear Peltor Sportac over mine and the work well. I find the Sordins can give a little more interference.

ISO Tune aware are the best but a bit bulkier than the Peltors.

Don't bother wearing your hearing aids just get a pair of electronic ear defenders.
Should add when would you be wearing the ear defenders?
If I am using shot gun then always wear ear defenders same if I am shooting numerous rounds out of CF or at a range.
Otherwise don't use Ear defenders as rifke has moddy.

I use a pair of in ear hearing aids and wear a pair of swatcom Active 8 electronic ear defenders over the top and it works really well. Or just wear the Swatcoms with the volume turned up.

Both work well.

Unless that is a .22LR, shooting subs, I'd still use ear defenders as it will still be loud enough to be damaging to your hearing.

And even then, I wear electronic in-ear units for protection.

I forgot to mention i also wear specs i have settled on a pair of Defy slim basic as these fit over the aids but because of the extra amplification will try them on their own used for shotgun as i cant shoot one without any protection i currently use moulded plugs with a valve fitted inside not had chance to try them yet i have very bad tinnitus left ear worse than the right but the aids seems to remove some of the noise from it

Me too GWP and my tinnitus is terrible. My missus has wanted me to consider hearing aids for a while and now back shooting, it's getting harder to say no as the hearing is getting worse every session, despite top quality electronic ear defenders (and I'm 'only' 51). Very reassuring to hear your aids have removed some of the tinnitus noise, thanks for sharing.

The aids act as noise cancelling so they can tune out tinnitus , (to a certain degree) I need to get a new set as my tinnitus is getting bad now, for shooting I uses Cens moulded inserts , not amplified as I also wear glasses so big over ear muffs never really work for me digital moulded may be the answer ??

Re. only wearing electronic ear defenders. My hearing aids are configured to fill in the gaps on my hearing range (letting me hear birdsong, for example), but the microphones/speakers in ear defenders amplify everything equally, doing nothing for the gaps.
I find the key comfort factor with ear defenders is having a pad on the cups that is fat enough to prevent them squashing the aid between your ear and your head.

I use these with my hearing aids:

3M™ PELTOR™ ProTac™ III Headsets

I have also changed the foam earmuffs for gel ones. Far more comfortable when wearing all day

I just take my aids off, and wear Sordin/MSA or Peltor ComTacs. The powered ear pro does well as substitute hearing aids, while still protecting my hearing (which is actually pretty good on the left side).
