Hearing protection

Thanks for all of the input folks, it looks like I'll be going peltor LEP 100s, a fair bit more than I'd planned to spend but I think for me they fit the bill well, being in ear I'm more likely to use them, the in case charging is a real bonus.

Good luck with them, don't panic if they don't produce a first class fit directly out of the box as you often have to do some experimentation with ear tips to get a good fit. It might help you to know that I discovered today that the ear tips for the Mino CENS units will fit on the Peltors, so if the ear tips in the box don't work for you that gives you another range to try. I think Alantoo found that several of the supplied ear tips worked for him out of the box but I have funny shaped ears :-)

I imagine a lot of people on this forum are interested in such things so once you've had them for a while be sure to post a review.

I have put in the minimum order for some of the CCC-GRM-25 3M Peltor tips from earshot communications ....25 pairs for £60.30 including the VAT and postage...so will probably have a few pairs for swaps or sale for people to try...especially if they don't suit me!

The CENS ones for the Minos look good...especially as you can buy them in pairs to try!

I have been using Siemens Secure Ear for a few years now, one of the best decisions I made. Battery life is good and they are so comfortable what more can you ask for.

They looked very good and I was about to buy them when I saw the 3M Peltor LEP-100s with their rechargeable batteries.

The SNR rating is pretty much the same between both units and I guess they will take the same tips as far as comfort goes.

Are they zinc-air batteries? And when you say battery life is good...how long do they last?

How do you get on who the volume control? I had a similar raised bobble rotating control on some Walker in-ear units which were a fiddle at best and one was so stiff I had to take it out to adjust.

Yes they are zinc air so once tab is pulled on battery they start working. On average they last me over a month , I think they quote about 200 hrs a time. The volume control is as you say a raised bobble but is quite free moving. If out stalking I have the volume turned up so you can hear all that's going on around. When clay target shooting I tend to turn the sound off when on the stand cuts out all the chat and banter. When target shooting I do the same allows you to concentrate. I got mine through James Hearing who arrange impressions to be done local to you, they also came supplied in a nice case and 2 full packs of batteries.

Beat me to it ....

Had a wee google of them to compare to the 3m peltor ones but saw the no longer in production message

Yes you are quite right , I contacted the company now called Savantos and they have phased them out with no replacement. Shame things always seem to be changing these days. Best of luck with your searching.
