Heated jacket recommendations

I'm not ashamed to say after spending most my time in in recent years in a temperature controlled office day to day that the cold is starting to get to me whilst out stalking. I'm usually sat in a high seat throughout the winter and usually fill all my pockets with disposable hand warmers but as times change I'm looking at a heated gillet for under my coat.

Initially I was looking at the Harkila version but a friend mentioned it only heats at the back? Has anyone got any experience with this version?

The other options are the new shooterking or the swedteam versions.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated before I fork out £200+

TIA

Some recommendations in the above link

Some of the motorcycle clothing is heated front and back, maybe this:

Lenz Heat Vest 1.0 would be my recommendation. I think this currently is the best vest on the market from my point of view. I have not anyway found any better. It breathes and has the heating elements in the right places. A heated vest should be worn tight in order for it to function properly and this vest accomplishes that due to stretch fabric on the sides.

That what I had it was amazing had it a few years before the battery died looking to replace it this season

Put ‘heated vest’ into amazon, plenty of lightweight versions to go under a jacket, don’t break the bank either, you just buy a power bank to power them. Work really well.

Be aware of differences in sizing between suppliers though - probably down to European v Far East stature - some sellers XL can be another’s XS!

I tried three different heated vests from Amazon last winter and they all ended up being sent back. Try before you buy for me this time around.

That’s unlucky! Fitted first time for me, sometimes better to be lucky than good...

Yeah, the kicker is that I’m a pretty standard Euro 52 size, although judging by the sizes of The vests I received that could be anywhere from 42 to 62!

Luckily the returns/credit process was reasonably fast and efficient - except for the vest that had a USB power bank included. That couldn’t be posted using the standard returns label for an instant refund and had to go via a different route - lesson learnt!

I find you have to Forget hunting clothing for real warmth and look to high mountain gear. I wear a Filson down vest or Patagonia down jacket under a hunting smock.

Look at Deerhunter Muflon Long Jacket, you wont need a heater, and you will probably end up using the under-arm vents to cool off a bit.

Went through the same process early this year....

This thread is worth a read and I’m really happy with the gilet and the power bank I bought...... it’s only downside is that the on/off button is on the right side and I’ve inadvertently pressed it with the rifle butt, several results possible from that...usually manifesting themselves after 20minutes along the lines of.. “why am I cooking/freezing?”

Note the comments on sizing....

Thanks everyone. On the off chance i was on ebay and found a branch new Harkilla one for sub £150 so i'm going to give that a go.

@Freeforester Thanks, i would have gone for one of the Verney versions but unfortunately they didn't have my size in stock

I think there have been a lot of issues with the Härkila vest. Lenz has got the concept right with their uninsulated vest. A heated vest should be use as a second layer and the tighter it sits the better it works.

My two pence worth here for reference.
I have spent years and 30k plus miles riding motorbikes all over and have had heated gear for years. After trying everything from cheap Chinese to top of the range I find that KEIS motorbike heated gear is by far the best . It uses a battery pack, the same pack for either a gilet, gloves, socks or full jacket. Has power levels and batteries can be bought.
The jacket is thin, has heating elements front, back and around the neck a d has kept me seriously warm for years now and if broke I would replace with the same tomorrow.
It is also made of like a nylon type material and is quiet. My layers on a bike are t shirt, heated jacket and my motorbike jacket and that's in the middle of winter!
www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk have a range and are free del and free returns up to 365 days! Try and send back if not happy after a year! Cheers.
