Heathrow embargo update

In a way I'm not surprised that the baggage handlers don't want to handle firearms. When I traveled through Manchester with my rifle in Sept, one of the baggage handlers had to sit with it for about 2hrs after I had checked it in. This puts them one person down for a couple of hrs. Firearms are probably their biggest hastle per item. In a way I'm surprised there isn't a handling charge by the airport for firearms as it also involves border force.

Cleared Heathrow yesterday afternoon.

BA, as stated on their website, only charged £125 for one case, ammo goes free.

They are still struggling with their revised computer system / procedures and Border Force were on a go slow.

Total time from check in to clearing Border Force took in the region of 2 1/2 hours, longer than normal.

Thanks for the update. I think 2.5 hours was about the same when I flew Virgin to JNB

FYI , Just been through Heathrow and Virgin still ok with sporting firearms transportation …

Was the £125 each way or a one off fee ?

To confirm, £125 each way for rifle case regardless of the number of firearms in it. Ammo goes free as per their website.

Not a huge amount of money given the amount of time and what the courier has to do to get it on to the plane
