Help from brainy maths types please!

As many will know, the NRA took the lease back from BSRC at the end of 2024 & have since installed new electronic target systems. However, amongst other issues the running boar no longer has the facility to automatically do mixed runs of slow & fast… 🤦

So, what I am asking for is some help from someone who can work out please what the sequences of target speeds are that meet the following criteria:

1. The shooter must be given a total of 10 slow & 10 fast runs
2. There must be 5 slow & 5 fast in each direction
3. There must be no more than 5 consecutive runs (left going followed by right going and so on) of any one speed.

My plan is to make a simple system that has the sequences printed on strips of laminated paper that pull through a window in a sheet so the person controlling the target can select the speed shown.

If anyone can help me with the sequences please drop me a PM.

TIA.

I presume that you are also expecting that each set will be unique, i.e. the sequence changes for every set of 20 targets?

1 and 2 are easy, but 3 is proving a bit of a challenge.

I take it that the sequences should be entirely automatic, in that the person controlling the targets shouldn't have to manually weed out any sequences that breach condition 3?

Provided there are a reasonable number of unique sequences available any that have more than 5 consecutive shots at the same speed can be manually weeded out 👍

I use ChatGPT for stuff like this, I can’t do the maths but understand enough of the theory of what I’m trying to achieve to make sure the AI answers makes sense. Give it a go…

This works really well. Until it doesn’t…

The critical bit is your ability to evaluate what it produces.
