Help I’ve lost a retainer pin

Hi, I was stripping and cleaning a bolt from a BSA supersport 5 .22lr and the firing pin spring retaining pin was lost due to it being fired across the room when the spring was released ( rookie mistake I know now )
Does anyone know where I could get a replacement or if I could just replace with a correct size pin from somewhere else?
Then it’s just the fun of getting it back together I have to master any tips welcome

Go through a box of drills - find one that fits and then cut a piece of.

Pop to too,station & buy the cheapest welding magnet they’ve got. Then use it to sweep over every inch of floor in the room where you lost it & you’ll find it stuck to the magnet with any luck.

Or, hoover the room, tip the contents out & run the magnet over that.

I’ve hoovered I suspect it has gone between the flooring and the skirting board. I will have a try the magnet next

Whenever you take a piece of machinery apart, best practice is to sweep the floor and clean the bench. If you suspect that bits are under spring pressure then break them apart inside a large plastic bag. Better yet is to use a spring compressor, or even a hose clamp and piece of leather to take the tension.

Many of us have learnt the hard way. And guns, especially shotguns, lever actions and straight pulls all have lots of little parts, all hand fitted, then hardened and tempered and final polish fitted. And that final fit is often critical to the workings of the action.

If you loose or break a part, its often a question of starting with a piece of silver or tool steel and making one from scratch. If you are having a gunsmith doing such work charging by the hour it quickly gets expensive.

With many small parts there is often the need to make special tools or at least holding devices to make such parts.
